India’s youngest carrier, Akasa Air (QP), has announced a significant increase in pilots’ salaries, with raises of up to 40%.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Akasa Air, the latest airline venture in India supported by the late billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, is seeking to raise $75-100 million through the issuance of new shares.
On Monday, Akasa Air, India’s newest airline, unveiled the second phase of its training and development center, known as the ‘Akasa Air Learning Academy,’ located in Gurugram.
Akasa Air will be receiving its 20th aircraft in the form Boeing 737 MAX 200, the type will be the first of its kind in the country.
Akasa Air, India’s newest airline, intends to hire nearly 1,000 new employees and expand its fleet by March 2024. According to CEO Vinay Dube, the airline’s total employee count would exceed 3,000 by that time, including 1,100 pilots and flight attendants.
Akasa Air has already formally ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, but the low-cost carrier intends to order an additional over 100 in the near future.
Vinay Dube said that the 4-5 months has been a Rollercoaster Ride for airline, but demise of Jhunjhunwala sir has been a personal loss. But his contribution is huge and because of him the airline is well setup.
An Akasa Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 as it was operating domestic flight QP1333 between Ahmedabad and Delhi, a bird struck the aircraft while it was climbing.
Akasa Air has partnered with RateGain Travel Technologies to gather real-time air travel data that will help the airline determine dynamic pricing.
