NOIDA- In the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the first test flight from the Noida International Airport (DXN) is anticipated to take off this month. This development marks the initial phase of the airport’s infrastructure rollout, with the full operation expected by the year-end.
Completing the runway’s asphalt work sets the stage for the test flight, aiming to bolster the BJP’s electoral narrative on infrastructure advancement in Uttar Pradesh, a politically pivotal state contributing 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha.
Noida Airport Test Flight
A reliable source from Noida International Airport (NIA) affirmed that construction is progressing vigorously and aligning with the committed timeline.
Presently, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, standing at a height of 38 meters, and the 3,900-meter runway are nearing completion. According to the official, a significant milestone in passenger readiness was achieved with the unveiling of the airport’s IATA code, DXN.
In pursuit of establishing efficient road connectivity to the airport, an official disclosed that Noida International Airport (NIA) is strategizing around utilizing the Yamuna Expressway as the primary link.
Specific plans include separate road access for cargo and passenger traffic, with an additional dedicated road access for cargo from the east side of the airport.
The official stated, “Metro and RRTS connectivity have also been incorporated into the airport’s plans. Additionally, there is contemplation for potential high-speed rail connectivity from Delhi to Varanasi, which could feature a stop adjacent to the airport.”
Tata Projects Handles EPC Work
NIA, having enlisted Tata Projects as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor in June 2022, proudly maintains an accident-free record while surpassing 20 million safe work hours. Currently, over 9,000 individuals are actively engaged in construction activities at the site.
“We have achieved the final floor level of the passenger terminal building, and work on the façade is now in progress. As construction transitions indoors, electrical and plumbing work has commenced at the passenger terminal,” the official reported.
Last year, NIA forged a partnership with IndiGo (6E) as the airport’s inaugural carrier, and recently, Akasa Air (QP) entered into a strategic collaboration with NIA.
An official stated that the airport has enlisted several key partners to enhance its operational capabilities.
These partners include TajSATS, which is responsible for providing in-flight catering services; Amadeus for passenger processing; and Air India SATS (AISATS) for establishing a multi-modal cargo hub at the airport.
