NOIDA— The commissioning of Noida International Airport (DXN) in Jewar has strengthened aviation infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR), giving millions of travelers a closer and more convenient gateway for air travel. IndiGo (6E) became the first airline to operate from the new airport, with services already connecting key domestic destinations.
The new airport offers passengers from western Uttar Pradesh an alternative to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), cutting long road journeys and reducing travel time. Early flights link the airport to cities including Lucknow (LKO), Bengaluru (BLR), and Amritsar (ATQ), with more routes planned in the coming phases.

Noida International Airport Launch
For years, air travelers from several districts of Uttar Pradesh relied on Delhi’s IGI Airport for domestic and international flights. The journey often required an extra two to three hours of road travel through heavy traffic, raising both the cost and stress of every trip.
The opening of Noida International Airport in Jewar removes that barrier by placing a major airport much closer to passengers’ homes.
Agra-based businessman Chandra Prakash welcomed the development, calling the airport a boon for residents of western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR. He said the new facility would make air travel far more convenient for people in nearby districts.
As a frequent domestic and international traveler in the shoe business, he noted that reaching IGI Airport from Agra earlier took an additional three to four hours. This time, he reached Noida International Airport in about two and a half hours without difficulty.
He added that the airport would help travelers save time and reduce transportation costs by avoiding long journeys to catch flights. He was waiting to board his first flight, set to depart for Amritsar, ETV Bharat reported.

Passengers Share Their Experience
Another traveler, Mohit Lachwani, who was waiting to board a flight to Amritsar, described the airport as a major relief for people across Uttar Pradesh.
He had travelled from Agra early in the morning to reach the airport for his flight. Lachwani, travelling to Amritsar for tourism, said having an airport closer to the region made the journey far more convenient and less tiring.
Lachwani also believes the airport will support regional growth. He said the new infrastructure would bring prosperity to surrounding areas and benefit lakhs of travelers by offering air connectivity closer to their homes, saving both time and effort for passengers who previously had to travel long distances.

A Proud Moment for Local Farmers
For Gyanendra Sharma, a farmer whose land was acquired for the airport project, the inaugural flight held special meaning. Invited to join the passengers on the first flight to Lucknow, Sharma called the occasion a proud moment for local farmers.
He said farmers who contributed their land to a development project of national importance had been recognised through the invitation, and he expressed happiness that a world-class airport had come up near his village.
Sharma was optimistic about the long-term impact of the project. He said the airport would improve connectivity, boost business activities, and create employment opportunities for local youth, describing it as a development that would benefit future generations.

Integrated Transport Hub with Expanding Routes
During the flag-off event, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said Noida International Airport at Jewar is being developed as a comprehensive transport hub that will integrate air, road, and metro connectivity to enhance travel convenience for millions of passengers.
He said flights on four routes have started, with the network set to expand to 12 routes and more in later phases.
According to IndiGo, the airline commenced operations from Noida International Airport on Monday, becoming the first carrier to fly from the National Capital Region’s newest airport. The first flight arrived at the airport from Lucknow, while the first departure operated shortly thereafter to Bengaluru.
