KUALA LUMPUR- Transport Minister Anthony Loke has assured us that the quest to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines (MH) flight MH370 will be completed immediately.
He affirmed that this commitment is a pledge from the Malaysian government, ensuring the continuation of the search.
MH370 Search Update
“While standing before you and making this commitment, I will exert every effort to gather evidence and negotiate a new contract with Ocean Infinity to promptly resume the search,” Loke declared during his speech at a commemorative event for flight MH370.
Loke further emphasized that the Malaysian government’s stance remains unwavering, stating that they would entertain the prospect of another search operation upon acquiring new information and credible evidence.
“I have directed the Transport Ministry to extend an invitation to Ocean Infinity to present their latest ‘no-fine, no-fee’ proposal in Malaysia. We are currently awaiting confirmation of suitable dates from Ocean Infinity, and I anticipate our meeting in the near future,” stated Loke.
He expressed optimism that the families and friends of the victims would maintain their strength during this challenging time.
“We extend our deepest sympathies, and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. More importantly, we are committed to standing by you,” he conveyed.
Loke clarified that the prior contract with Ocean Infinity had concluded in 2018. He explained the consideration of initiating a new contract based on a ‘no-find, no-fee’ policy.
Despite the apparent lack of financial obligation in the absence of findings, Loke expressed optimism that the government of Malaysia and the Cabinet would approve such proposals once the aircraft is located. He shared this perspective with reporters after the event organized by Voice370.
Awaiting Approval
Emphasizing the Malaysian government’s readiness, Loke underscored their willingness to engage with Ocean Infinity either through physical meetings or conference calls.
“There is no hesitation. From the perspective of the Malaysian government, a firm commitment exists for that search. The search must persist,” he declared.
Responding to queries about a timeline, Loke mentioned that the ministry is currently awaiting a response from Ocean Infinity. Once received, the proposal will be presented to the Cabinet for approval regarding the commitment to financial costs.
“I anticipate no issues in this regard. Typically, we can have the Cabinet review the proposal within weeks,” he remarked, clarifying that cost poses no hindrance. He emphasized that the government is prepared to bear the associated expenses if the aircraft is located.
In a gathering held today, over 500 family and friends of MH370 passengers came together to share their experiences of enduring grief and the ongoing struggle to find closure regarding the mysterious disappearance of Flight MH370.
The Boeing 777 aircraft, carrying 239 people, vanished from radar screens on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
