DELHI- Tata-owned Indian FSC Air India (AI) is poised for a highly anticipated overhaul that will involve a fresh identity encompassing a new logo and brand palette. It’s reported that the name ‘Air India’ will remain unchanged, preserving the brand’s essence.
Allegedly, the airline is set to adopt a novel livery characterized by red, white, and purple hues. While red and white are traditionally associated with Air India’s branding, the addition of purple will draw inspiration from Vistara’s distinctive color scheme.
Air India Rebranding
The existing emblem of Air India, utilized since 2014, showcases a crimson swan embellished with the iconic orange Konark Chakra emblem. This emblem is also prominently displayed on the tail of Air India’s airplanes.
In a recent announcement, the airline stated that a forthcoming event on August 10 will unveil a new phase of transformation.
Previously, N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, had communicated the comprehensive overhaul slated for Air India.
“The process of transformation spans various facets, including human resources, technology, engineering, and ground handling. A complete renewal of the entire fleet is underway, underpinned by one of the most substantial aircraft orders. This venture signifies a remarkably audacious move,” as conveyed by Chandrasekaran during the BT Mindrush & BT Best CEOs Awards gathering held in Mumbai.

As part of a rebranding initiative, the CEO, Campbell Wilson, announced that Air India is poised to introduce an array of fresh services. This includes a novel color scheme, redesigned cabin interiors, updated crew uniforms, and a new insignia.
Possible New Changes
Anticipating the Air India Revamp:
Media sources suggest that Air India enlisted FutureBrand, a brand and design consultancy based in London, to redefine the airline’s branding strategy.
FutureBrand boasts an impressive portfolio that includes rebranding endeavors for American Airlines, the British luxury automobile brand Bentley, and even the 2012 London Olympics.
The iconic airline mascot, known as The Maharajah, was also included for potential changes in the rebranding roadmap. It has been hinted that a female mascot could potentially join the roster.
Furthermore, the airline has indicated that by March 2024, a substantial portion—approximately a third—of its wide-body aircraft fleet will be furnished with contemporary, luxurious seating and state-of-the-art inflight entertainment systems.
In conclusion, this fiscal year, the addition of the six new A350s, coupled with the inclusion of 5 leased B772LRs and 9 additional B773ERS, will result in a notable expansion of our wide-body fleet by 30% in just one year,” shared Air India’s CEO and MD, Campbell Wilson, in his weekly address to the staff.
Furthermore, in addition to this development, a merger is on the horizon for Air India Express (IX) and Air Asia India (I5), forming a unified low-cost carrier airline.
Another significant move involves the integration of Vistara (UK) with Air India, which is projected to be completed by March 2024.
