Current data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, shows the scale of the change. A comparison of the carrier’s international network in 2026 against 2025 confirms 13 routes that did not exist in the earlier schedule.
The new services range considerably in length and frequency. American Airlines is using a mix of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Boeing 777s, Airbus A321XLRs, Boeing 737s, and Embraer E175 regional jets to match capacity to each market.

Europe Becomes Largest Share of Expansion
Europe takes the largest share of new flights, and the number of long-haul routes to European destinations stands out immediately on the route map.
Philadelphia is the key hub on this front. May marked the launch of new services to Budapest and Prague, both operated with the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Each route is scheduled for 135 flights in 2026, offering 31,590 seats.

“DFW [is] American’s largest and most connected hub — a hub that plays a crucial role in delivering for customers across American’s global operation this summer.”

5 New Routes Serve Caribbean and South America
American has introduced five new international routes to the Caribbean and South America this year. Four of them originate in Miami.
The odd one out runs from Philadelphia to Cibao International Airport (STI), which serves Santiago de los Caballeros, the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic. American has penciled in 118 rotations with the Boeing 737.
Among the 4 new Miami routes, Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, is by far the most popular.
American has scheduled 471 rotations on the route in 2026, split between 149 flights with the Boeing 737-800 and 322 flights with Envoy Air’s Embraer E175s. The route offers a grand total of 50,100 seats each way, and flights began in late April.
Elsewhere in Venezuela, American Airlines has scheduled 171 flights on its new route from Miami to La Chinita International Airport (MAR) in Maracaibo. These flights will also use E175s, and they are set to begin on July 14, as reported by Simple Flying.
The E175 additionally serves the new route from Miami to Bimini, which began in February. Daily Boeing 737 flights from Miami to Cap-Haïtien are set to begin in November 2026.

2 Seasonal Routes Cross Canadian Border
While relations between the United States and Canada have not been at their best in recent years, American also has 2 new routes to the country. Both originate at New York JFK.
The first serves Calgary International Airport (YYC) 26 times using the Boeing 737 MAX 8. These short-term flights will begin in August and operate until October.
American is eyeing a busier summer for its new route from JFK to Quebec City. Republic Airways will operate the service under the American Eagle brand using Embraer E175 jets, with 69 rotations planned in total. These flights also run from August to October, but at a higher frequency than the Calgary service.
