DUBAI- Emirates (EK) has completed the first Starlink Wi-Fi installation on its Airbus A380, marking a major upgrade in onboard connectivity for the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
The equipped A380 returned to Dubai (DXB) this week after undergoing installation and certification at Newquay (NQY), United Kingdom.
The new setup delivers over 2 Gbps of total aircraft bandwidth, a thousand-fold improvement over the original system that offered less than 1 Mbps.
Emirates (EK) will offer the service free of charge to all customers across every cabin class, with accelerated A380 installations planned throughout 2026.

Emirates A380 Gets Starlink Wi-Fi
The A380’s double-decker layout and high passenger capacity present distinct engineering challenges for onboard Wi-Fi. Emirates addressed this with an industry-first configuration featuring three Starlink antennas per Airbus A380, one more than the Boeing 777 setup.
The aircraft also carries additional wireless access points and optimised inter-deck integration to maintain consistent speeds across both levels.
Customers will be able to stream, game, browse, and work on personal devices throughout their flight. Sign up and access require no complicated steps. Future enhancements include Live TV streaming over Starlink, initially available on personal devices and later integrated into seatback screens.

Fleet-Wide Deployment Gains Momentum
Emirates plans to begin Starlink installations at its own engineering facilities in Dubai to speed up the rollout.
Currently, 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft already operate with Starlink, and the first A380 now joins active service.
More than 650,000 Emirates customers have already flown on Starlink-equipped aircraft, experiencing next-generation onboard connectivity firsthand. The airline has committed to equipping its entire fleet at the earliest opportunity.

Retrofit Programme and Cabin Upgrades Continue
The Starlink addition complements one of the most ambitious retrofit programmes in aviation history.
Emirates has fully refurbished 93 aircraft to date, adding Premium Economy cabins, an enhanced Business Class, refreshed First Class suites, and upgraded Economy Class interiors. The inflight entertainment system now offers more than 6,500 channels.
Emirates also opened a US$ 8 million Centre of Hospitality Excellence in mid-2025 to train its 25,000 cabin crew. The facility focuses on both tangible service standards and the intangible elements of premium hospitality at 40,000 feet.
