DUBAI- Emirates Airline (EK) flight EK929 from Dubai (DXB) to Cairo (CAI) experienced a cabin pressurization issue at cruise altitude. The Boeing 777-200 returned to Dubai after the crew began an emergency descent and oxygen masks were deployed.
The aircraft held at a lower altitude before heading back to Dubai (DXB), where it landed safely. The airline confirmed there were no injuries and cited a component failure in the air conditioning system.

Emirates Flight Return to Dubai
The Emirates Boeing 777-200, registered A6-EWB, was operating EK929 from Dubai (DXB) to Cairo (CAI) when the crew reported a loss of cabin pressure while cruising at FL360 over Saudi Arabia. As a safety measure, oxygen masks were deployed for passengers and cabin crew.
The pilots initiated an emergency descent to 9,000 feet and entered a holding pattern while assessing the situation.
With passenger safety as the priority, the decision was made to return to Dubai. The aircraft remained at 9,000 feet for the return sector and landed safely on runway 30L approximately two hours after leaving cruise altitude. Emergency services met the aircraft on arrival as a precaution, Aviation Herald reported.
Emirates reported that the event was linked to a component failure in the aircraft’s air conditioning system, which affected cabin pressurization. The airline confirmed that no passengers or crew were injured during the incident.
A replacement Boeing 777-300, registered A6-ECE, was deployed to operate the disrupted Cairo service. The flight eventually reached Cairo (CAI) with a delay of around eight hours.
The Boeing 777-200 involved in the event remained grounded in Dubai (DXB) following the diversion while inspections and maintenance checks were carried out.

Emirates (EK) flight EK543 from Chennai (MAA) to Dubai (DXB) returned to Chennai (MAA) for an emergency landing after the crew detected a technical issue shortly after departure.
All passengers and crew onboard the Emirates (EK) service remained safe, and the aircraft resumed its journey to Dubai (DXB) after engineers resolved the fault on the ground at Chennai (MAA).
Safe Return Following Technical Alert
Emirates (EK) flight EK543, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, departed Chennai International Airport (MAA) at 10:44 a.m. on May 11, 2025, following a short delay from its scheduled 9:50 a.m. takeoff time.
Soon after departure, the cockpit crew identified a technical irregularity and informed Chennai Air Traffic Control, triggering emergency protocols. Priority landing clearance was granted, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 28 at 11:17 a.m.
There were 268 passengers and 12 crew members onboard, none of whom sustained injuries. Maintenance engineers carried out inspections, diagnosed the fault, and completed the necessary rectification within 90 minutes.
With passengers remaining onboard, the aircraft later departed Chennai (MAA) at 12:40 p.m. and continued to Dubai (DXB).
Operational Response and Safety Protocols
Airport authorities acknowledged the crew’s prompt decision to return, noting that the action prevented further complications. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation recorded the event in its incident log as part of standard oversight procedures.
Emirates (EK) continues to emphasise strict operational safety standards across its network, which includes regular fleet maintenance and technical readiness. Chennai remains a key point within the airline’s India operations, linking Southern India to Dubai and onward global destinations.
The airline’s coordinated response between pilots, ground teams, ATC, and engineering ensured minimal disruption and passenger safety at all times.
