BENGALURU— A passenger has alleged that unhygienic cabin conditions on an Akasa Air (QP) flight caused a serious fungal infection, raising renewed concerns over onboard sanitation standards in India’s fast-growing aviation sector.
The incident relates to a late-night service from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) to Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) on December 26, which departed at 10:25 pm and was expected to be a routine domestic journey.

Akasa Air Passenger Serious Infection
The woman, identified as Jahanvi Tripathi, shared her experience publicly, stating that what began as minor discomfort during the flight later escalated into severe health complications requiring medical treatment.
According to Tripathi, the condition of the aircraft seats was visibly unhygienic and immediately uncomfortable, creating distress throughout the flight.
She stated that the issue was not isolated, as her friends traveling with her experienced similar discomfort during the journey.
Shortly after the trip, she allegedly developed a severe fungal infection on her legs, which worsened rapidly over the following days. The condition reportedly left her unable to walk properly, disrupted her sleep, and significantly affected her daily routine.
Tripathi described the experience as physically painful and emotionally exhausting, adding that the health impact ultimately ruined her travel plans.
She emphasized that the timing of the infection raised serious concerns about cabin cleanliness and overall sanitation standards onboard.
In her public account, she stated that such health outcomes following air travel were unacceptable and highlighted the responsibility of airlines to ensure passenger safety beyond basic operational requirements.

Official Remarks
Akasa Air acknowledged the complaint and expressed regret over the passenger’s experience. The airline stated that maintaining high hygiene standards remains a priority and that the feedback has been shared internally for immediate review.
The carrier added that it would reach out to the passenger directly to address the issue. However, no specific findings or corrective actions related to the aircraft involved have been disclosed so far.
The incident comes at a time when Indian airlines are under increasing scrutiny over service quality as passenger volumes rise. Hygiene and cabin maintenance have become key focus areas, particularly following heightened public awareness around health risks during travel.
While the airline has not confirmed a direct link between the flight conditions and the alleged infection, the case has sparked discussion among travelers regarding accountability and transparency in addressing post-flight health complaints.

Bottom Line
The allegations highlight growing passenger expectations around hygiene and comfort in domestic air travel.
As investigations continue, the incident underscores the importance of consistent sanitation practices to maintain trust and safety in India’s aviation sector.
