FORT WORTH- After United Airlines announced 10 new destinations, American Airlines (AA) has announced seven new international routes and three new destinations for its 2027 summer schedule, expanding connections from major U.S. hubs to Europe and Asia. The new services will include flights from Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD), New York (JFK), and Philadelphia (PHL).
The network expansion will bring American Airlines (AA) to Porto (OPO), Reykjavik (KEF), and Vienna (VIE) from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), while adding new links to Amsterdam (AMS), Nice (NCE), Barcelona (BCN), and Tokyo (NRT). All new summer 2027 routes will operate daily, with tickets scheduled to go on sale August 31.
American Airlines Expands Global Network for 2027
American Airlines is strengthening its international network with seven new routes and three new destinations in its 2027 schedule. The expansion covers key markets across Europe and Asia, while also increasing capacity on important transatlantic routes.
The airline said the new services will complement investments in its premium cabin offering and onboard experience. American will operate daily service on all seven new summer routes.
Tickets for the new services will be available from August 31 through the American Airlines website and mobile app.

The table includes eight service changes because the London Heathrow operation represents the return of a fourth daily JFK-LHR flight rather than a completely new city pair.

Philadelphia Gains Three New European Destinations
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) will become a major focus of American Airlines’ 2027 expansion, with new nonstop flights to Porto (OPO), Reykjavik (KEF), and Vienna (VIE).
Porto and Vienna will join the airline’s network for the first time, while the Philadelphia-Reykjavik route returns after last operating in 2019.
Vienna Adds a New Central European Link
American Airlines will become the only U.S. airline serving Vienna International Airport (VIE) from Philadelphia, according to the airline.
The route will strengthen American’s Central European network, which expanded in 2026 with Prague (PRG) and Budapest (BUD). The Philadelphia-Vienna service is scheduled to continue through early January 2028, giving travelers additional access to the city’s winter and Christmas market season.
Vienna offers major cultural attractions, including historic palaces, museums and classical music venues. Its established café culture also makes the Austrian capital a major leisure destination.
Reykjavik Returns to the Network
American will resume Philadelphia-Reykjavik service for the first time since 2019.
The route targets growing interest in Iceland as a summer destination, particularly among travelers seeking cooler weather and outdoor activities. Iceland offers attractions ranging from glacier hikes and snorkeling at the Silfra Fissure to opportunities to experience its volcanic landscapes.
Porto Joins American’s Network
American had previously announced plans to launch Philadelphia-Porto service in 2027.
Porto provides access to northern Portugal and the Douro Valley, while the city is known for its historic architecture and azulejos, the traditional decorative ceramic tiles found throughout Portugal.
The new route gives American customers a nonstop option for reaching a destination that has become increasingly popular with international leisure travelers.
New York Expands Access to Amsterdam and Nice
New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) will gain two new European routes in 2027, connecting directly with Amsterdam (AMS) and Nice (NCE).
The new services will expand American’s transatlantic presence from one of its largest U.S. gateways.
Amsterdam Joins JFK’s New Route Network
The new JFK-Amsterdam route will complement American’s existing seasonal service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and year-round service from Philadelphia (PHL).
Amsterdam is one of Europe’s major leisure destinations, with extensive canal networks, museums and a strong cultural tourism market.
American will operate the JFK-Amsterdam route with the Airbus A321XLR, reflecting the airline’s use of long-range narrowbody aircraft on selected international markets.
New York Gets a Direct Link to Nice
American will also connect JFK with Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) from May 6, 2027.
The service will provide direct access to the French Riviera, including destinations such as Cannes, Antibes, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Èze.
The Airbus A321XLR will operate the route, adding another long-range narrowbody service to American’s transatlantic schedule.
Charlotte Adds Barcelona Service
Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) will gain a new nonstop connection to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) beginning May 27, 2027.
The route will be operated with a Boeing 777-200ER, giving Charlotte another long-haul connection to Europe.
American said Barcelona will become its sixth U.S. gateway to the Spanish city. The airline also states that it operates more service to Barcelona than any other U.S. airline.
The route will expand access to Barcelona from American’s major southeastern U.S. hub, supporting both leisure and connecting traffic.
Chicago Adds Tokyo Service for Cherry Blossom Season
American Airlines will launch nonstop service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) on March 19, 2027.
The timing aligns with the high-demand spring travel period associated with Japan’s cherry blossom season.
The Boeing 787-9 will operate the new route. Customers will also be able to connect beyond Tokyo to destinations across East and Southeast Asia through American’s partnership with Japan Airlines (JL).
Fourth Daily JFK-London Flight Returns
American will restore a fourth daily flight between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) beginning March 28, 2027.
The additional service will operate with a Boeing 787-9 equipped with Flagship Suite seats.
Through its partnership with British Airways (BA), American says customers will have access to as many as 14 daily flights between New York and London. The combined schedule represents the largest number of flights between the two cities offered by any airline partnership, according to American.
London remains a key market for American’s premium international customers. The airline describes itself as the largest U.S. carrier in the London market.
Flagship Suite Continues on London Services
American introduced its Flagship Suite premium seat on London flights from Chicago and Philadelphia in 2025 before expanding the product to services from Dallas-Fort Worth, New York and Los Angeles.
The Boeing 787-9 assigned to the returning fourth JFK-LHR service will feature Flagship Suite seats, maintaining American’s focus on premium-cabin capacity on the important transatlantic route.
Two Returning Routes Get Longer Seasons
American will also extend the operating season on two existing international routes.
Flights from Charlotte (CLT) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Miami (MIA) to Milan Malpensa (MXP) will begin March 4, 2027.
The earlier start dates will increase access to Europe during the spring travel period, including the increasingly popular spring break travel window.
American Strengthens Its International Offering
The 2027 expansion builds on American’s broader international network and its partnerships with carriers including British Airways and Japan Airlines.
American currently operates more than 6,000 daily flights to over 350 destinations in more than 60 countries, according to company information. The airline also remains a founding member of the oneworld alliance.
The new routes will give customers additional nonstop options from four major U.S. gateways while expanding access to European and Asian markets.
