NEW YORK– A scheduled flight operated by Delta Air Lines (DL) from LaGuardia Airport (LGA) was evacuated on Tuesday evening following a reported bomb threat. The aircraft, preparing to depart for Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), was cleared by authorities after an intensive search.
The incident marks the second major security alert at a significant U.S. airport on the same day. Earlier in the day, another threat forced action at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), raising heightened concerns across the aviation sector.

Delta Flight Gets Bomb Threat
Delta’s flight, identified as DL2313, was parked at Terminal C of LaGuardia when crew members reported a security concern at approximately 8 p.m. local time.
Airport police from the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) responded swiftly and directed the aircraft to be moved away from the gate area for further inspection.
Passengers were deplaned and transported back to the terminal via bus. Luggage and the aircraft were searched, and after roughly two hours, authorities declared the scene secure and cleared the aircraft at around 10 p.m.

Delay and Re-booking
Delta announced that the safety and security of its customers and staff remained the top priority and apologised for the resulting travel disruption. The carrier said the flight would depart overnight and resume in the early hours of Wednesday.
Passengers who had been scheduled for the original departure were re-booked onto a morning service. No injuries or explosives were reported during the incident.
From a regulatory standpoint, the incident will likely be logged under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a security event and may trigger follow-up inspections and audits.
The airline and airport authority may conduct post-incident reviews to identify any procedural or communications lapses.

Wider Security Context
Earlier on Tuesday, a bomb threat prompted evacuation and ground stops at another major U.S. airport, underscoring the broader challenge of maintaining aviation security in a heightened-alert environment.
The coincidence of two such events on the same day has triggered reviews of threat-response protocols and situational awareness among airport operators and carriers.
Security officials stress that many such threats remain unverified, but the cost of a false negative is too high to ignore. Both airports and airlines routinely conduct searches, evacuations and protocol drills in response to any credible or potential threat.
While airport operations at LGA were briefly disrupted, the event was contained and normal service resumed following the all-clear. Terminal and runway operations were not widely affected beyond the specific aircraft involved.
For the airline, the disruption was limited to the delay and re-booking of the one flight, though crew scheduling and downstream connections were also impacted.

Bottom Line
The evacuation of Delta Air Lines Flight 2313 at LaGuardia Airport amid a bomb threat highlights both the vigilance of aviation security systems and the persistent challenge posed by threat alerts.
While no threat materialised, the disruption underscores the need for robust procedures and rapid coordination among airlines, airport authorities, and security agencies to maintain passenger safety and operational resilience.
