ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) is streamlining its SkyMiles Program and introducing new and improved methods for customers to earn towards their Status. Beginning on January 1, 2024, Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) will be the sole criteria for achieving Medallion Status.
SkyMiles Members will no longer be required to monitor Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs).
Delta SkyMiles Program New Changes
Furthermore, the airline is expanding the ways Members can earn MQDs. This can be accomplished through flights operated by Delta and its partners by renting Delta cars, booking stays through Delta.com, enjoying Delta Vacations experiences, and taking advantage of an MQD Boost benefit available with select Delta SkyMiles American Express cards.
Customers will still be able to accumulate an unlimited number of redeemable miles and enjoy the familiar Delta SkyMiles perks they cherish, including miles that never expire, the absence of blackout dates for Award tickets on any Delta-operated flight, and access to fast and complimentary onboard Wi-Fi, which is currently available on most domestic flights and will be extended to all flights by the end of 2024.
Dwight James, Senior Vice President of Customer Engagement and Loyalty and CEO of Delta Vacations, stated that Delta is embarking on a multi-year journey to revamp its SkyMiles Program.
The goal is to provide customers with a range of options to enhance their Delta membership from the moment they join the program. According to James, members will have the flexibility to earn status during their travel experiences and everyday lives.
To make tracking Medallion Status progress more convenient, members will have access to an enhanced personal dashboard on the Fly Delta app or their SkyMiles account page on delta.com, starting in January.
Additionally, members who have accumulated Rollover Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) during 2023 will not lose them. Beginning on February 1, 2024, members can convert these Rollover MQMs into Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs), redeemable miles, or a combination of both.
SkyClub Access Update
Delta is implementing updates to its Delta Sky Club access policies in collaboration with certain American Express Card Members. These adjustments are part of the airline’s commitment to preserving the high-quality experience offered in its popular lounges.

Members in this category have the opportunity to earn unlimited Club access by making eligible purchases totaling $75,000 on their eligible Card within a calendar year.
This unlimited access applies for the remainder of the ongoing program year (ending on January 31) and the entire next program year. The tracking of qualifying purchases begins on January 1, 2024, for the 2025 Medallion year.
Starting on January 1, 2024, Delta SkyMiles Platinum and Platinum Business American Express Card Members and customers traveling in Basic Economy, regardless of their card type, will no longer be eligible for Club access.
Premium Experience
These modifications are part of Delta’s ongoing efforts to balance the popularity of its Clubs and the premium experience they offer guests.
The airline has recently made significant investments in its Clubs, including the creation of spacious and aesthetically appealing lounges at Delta’s Boston, New York-JFK, and Minneapolis hubs, its new facility in Newark’s Terminal A, and in Kansas City, where Delta operates the only lounge at MCI airport.
