FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA), based in Fort Worth, Texas, wants to become the premier global airline based in the US.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) remains American Airlines’ largest hub as the carrier increases its focus on premium travel and competes more directly with Delta Air Lines (DL) and United Airlines (UA).

American Airlines Sets New Global Airline Goal
American Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Nat Pieper outlined the carrier’s ambition during the oneworld Loyalty Summit.
Pieper said American wants to be the “premier global airline based in the U.S.”, putting Delta and United directly in its competitive sights.
According to View from the Wing, the comments came during an interview with aviation analyst Henry Harteveldt.
The statement comes as American works to improve its premium offering and strengthen its overall customer experience.

American Airlines Expands Its Premium Strategy
American Airlines is putting greater focus on premium cabins as part of the strategy.
The carrier recently showcased a reconfigured Boeing 777-300ER featuring 70 business-class suites. The aircraft is part of a wider effort to give passengers more reasons to pay for premium travel.
American is also introducing improved products on newer aircraft, including the Boeing 787-9.

American Still Has Ground to Cover
American faces a major challenge in closing the gap with Delta and United.
The airline has been investing in aircraft interiors, premium products, connectivity and loyalty, but many improvements will take time to reach a large part of the fleet.
The carrier also needs to make sure its premium strategy extends beyond aircraft cabins.
Flight attendants, gate agents and other frontline employees will play an important role in delivering the experience American wants customers to associate with its brand.

Can American Challenge Delta and United?
American has now clearly stated where it wants to compete.
Its large U.S. hubs, international network, oneworld partnerships and AAdvantage loyalty program give the carrier a strong foundation.
However, turning the goal of becoming the premier U.S. global airline into reality will depend on consistent improvements in premium service, aircraft products and customer experience.

Bottom Line
American Airlines is taking a more aggressive approach to competing with Delta and United.
Nat Pieper’s global airline ambition highlights the carrier’s broader push toward premium travel, stronger customer service and a more competitive international position.
