DALLAS FORT WORTH— American Airlines (AA) has unveiled a new set of domestic routes from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), reinforcing its claim of operating the nation’s most comprehensive domestic network. The new services, announced on Jan. 23, are designed to capture rising leisure and business demand.
From Chicago (ORD), the airline will introduce new nonstop flights to Allentown, Pennsylvania (ABE); Columbia, South Carolina (CAE); and Kahului, Hawaii (OGG) later this year, while Los Angeles (LAX) will gain fresh connectivity to Cleveland, Ohio (CLE), and Washington, D.C., via Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) starting in April.

American Airlines Chicago Expansion
American Airlines is expanding its Chicago hub with three new destinations that cater to both regional and long-haul demand.
The airline will launch twice-daily Embraer 170 services to Allentown and Columbia from May 21, offering year-round connectivity and seamless onward links across its global network.
The most significant addition is the nonstop service between Chicago and Kahului, scheduled to begin on Dec. 17 and operate daily through March 27, 2027.
This route will be served by the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, featuring lie-flat business class seats and premium economy options, reflecting strong winter demand for Hawaii among Midwestern travelers.
Brian Znotins, Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, said the new routes underscore the airline’s intent to meet varied travel needs, noting that customers increasingly seek both convenience and premium options when flying from major hubs.

Los Angeles Connectivity Growth
From Los Angeles (LAX), American will add daily Boeing 737 flights to Cleveland and Washington Dulles starting April 7, strengthening coast-to-coast connectivity.
The Washington D.C. service will complement existing flights to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, giving travelers up to three daily options between Southern California and the U.S. capital region.
The expanded schedule enhances flexibility for business travelers while also supporting leisure demand, particularly during peak travel periods.
American and its partners currently serve more than 85 destinations from LAX, positioning the airport as a critical gateway within the carrier’s domestic and international network.
Znotins emphasized that the Los Angeles additions are part of a broader strategy to deliver unmatched connectivity, especially as demand builds ahead of major global events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Network Strategy Outlook
The newly announced routes build on a period of rapid network growth for American Airlines, which added service to 29 destinations from Chicago last year alone.
All of those routes are set to return in 2026, alongside more than 500 peak daily departures during the spring break period.
Across its system, the airline expects to operate up to 7,000 peak daily flights this summer, more than any other carrier worldwide.
This scale provides customers with expanded opportunities to earn and redeem loyalty points, while also supporting consistent schedules across business, leisure, and visiting-friends-and-relatives travel segments.

Bottom Line
American Airlines’ latest route additions from Chicago and Los Angeles highlight a focused push to deepen domestic connectivity while pairing frequency with premium onboard products.
By leveraging its largest hubs and a diverse fleet, the airline is positioning itself to capture sustained demand across the U.S. travel market.
