GUANGZHOU- China Southern Airlines (CZ) will introduce a new long-haul route connecting Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) with Helsinki Airport (HEL) from March 29, 2026. This will be the airline’s historical first route to Finland and its first operation to the Nordic region.
The Beijing–Helsinki service restores a highly demanded connection after a 5 year break, strengthening air links between China and Northern Europe while supporting both business and leisure travel.

China Southern Beijing to Helsinki Route
China Southern Airlines (CZ) will operate flights between Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) and Helsinki Airport (HEL) 3 times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays starting March 29, 2026.
From June 20, 2026, the route will increase to daily operations, reflecting expected demand growth.
Flights will arrive in Helsinki at 18:35 and depart back to Beijing at 20:35. The route will be operated using Boeing 787-9 aircraft, providing long-haul efficiency and passenger comfort.
The Beijing–Helsinki connection marks the reopening of a major route that has been absent for 5 years.
It also represents the first time China Southern Airlines has operated services to Helsinki Airport and to the Nordic countries.
“We are pleased to see the highly demanded Beijing route re-opened after a 5 year break. This flight will mark the first time China Southern Airlines is operating to Helsinki Airport and to the Nordics. The flight will serve both business and leisure travel in both directions,” said Petri Vuori, Senior Vice President responsible for route development at Finavia.

Connectivity Benefits for Passengers
For passengers departing from Beijing, the new route offers a time-efficient connection to Finland with strong onward links from Helsinki Airport to destinations across Europe.
For travelers from Finland, Beijing Daxing International Airport provides extensive transfer options across China and Asia.
Available onward connections include major markets such as South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh, enhancing travel flexibility for both corporate and leisure passengers.
Beijing is one of the world’s most populous capital cities, with more than 22 million inhabitants. It is the second largest city in China by urban area and serves as a major political, economic, and commercial center, hosting the headquarters of leading Chinese corporations and numerous global companies.

China Southern Airlines’ European Presence
China Southern Airlines is one of China’s major carriers, headquartered in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
Its European network already includes Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Rome, Frankfurt, London, Luxembourg, and Istanbul.
The addition of Helsinki further expands its footprint in Europe.
The new Beijing service strengthens Helsinki Airport’s route portfolio to China. Currently, Finnair (AY) and Juneyao Airlines (HO) operate flights to Shanghai, while Juneyao Airlines also serves Zhengzhou.
The addition of China Southern Airlines enhances route diversity and reinforces Helsinki’s position as a key Northern European gateway to Asia.

Helsinki Travel Guide
Finland is gaining attention as a calm, climate-friendly alternative to Europe’s overheated travel hubs, and Helsinki is leading that shift. Cool temperatures, low crowd density, and strong wellness culture define its appeal.
The opening of The Hotel Maria adds a new layer to Helsinki’s tourism story, introducing world-class luxury in the heart of the historic city center.
A New Benchmark for Luxury in Helsinki
Helsinki’s hospitality landscape changed with the full opening of The Hotel Maria, a 117-room luxury property in the Kruununhaka district. The hotel occupies four restored historic buildings surrounded by art nouveau architecture and civic landmarks.
The property is part of Preferred Hotels and Resorts’ Legend Collection, signaling its position in the global luxury segment. Thirty-eight suites, personalized wellness services, and private in-room saunas or steam rooms cater to high-end travelers seeking privacy and comfort.
Natural light defines the spa spaces, while wellness concierges tailor experiences around Finnish traditions. The hotel’s design balances heritage preservation with modern functionality, appealing to travelers who value authenticity over excess.
Dining and Local Food Experiences
Helsinki’s culinary culture centers on seasonal ingredients and understated presentation. Cafe Story inside the Old Market Hall remains a local favorite for traditional salmon soup, especially during lunch hours.
For dinner, Restaurant Sarkanlinna offers a distinctive setting inside a historic island fortress. The century-old restaurant highlights Nordic flavors through dishes such as forest mushroom soup, spring lamb with herbs, and classic rhubarb pie. During winter, Wellamo in Katajanokka provides a quieter, residential dining experience with seasonal menus and local gin selections.
Scenic Landmarks and Walkable Streets
Senate Square remains Helsinki’s most recognizable public space. The square is framed by the Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the University of Helsinki, and the Sederholm House, the oldest building in the city center.
A short walk leads to Market Square by the harbor, where visitors can sample Finnish cinnamon buns, fresh berries, and local produce during warmer months. The compact city layout allows most major sites to be explored on foot, reducing reliance on cars.

Sauna Culture at the Waterfront
Sauna culture defines daily life in Finland, and Helsinki offers several public venues that combine tradition with urban design. Loyly allows guests to alternate between sauna heat and direct sea access throughout the year.
Allas Sea Pool provides both heated and unheated seawater pools, located beside the harbor. These facilities introduce visitors to Finnish wellness customs in a social, accessible setting.
Nature Beyond the City
Finland’s lake district includes more than 188,000 lakes and begins roughly one hour from Helsinki. Day trips offer access to quiet shorelines, forests, and clear freshwater environments.
Water quality remains a point of national pride. Finland’s tap water is widely recognized for its cleanliness and taste, reinforcing the country’s reputation for environmental stewardship.
A City That Surprises First-Time Visitors
Helsinki often exceeds expectations due to its efficient public transport, including trams that double as sightseeing routes. English is widely spoken, reducing language barriers for international travelers.
Visitors frequently note the openness of local residents and the city’s calm pace, even during peak travel seasons. These factors contribute to Helsinki’s growing status as a relaxed, premium European destination.
