DELHI– Tata Group-owned Air India (AI) is back in the spotlight, not for a delay or safety issue, but for a curious entry in its cabin defect log that’s gone viral online. The entry reportedly came from an Air India flight operating between Delhi (DEL) and Dubai (DXB).
The document, shared by an aviation journalist, shows crew members noting that a passenger discovered a live cockroach onboard — and the cabin team’s unusual method of “resolving” the issue has triggered waves of humor and disbelief across social media.

Air India Cockroach ‘Hanged Until Death’ Viral Post
According to the viral post, the cabin defect log — a standard record used by airlines to document technical or in-flight issues — contained an unexpected note. It stated that a passenger found a cockroach “alive” during the Delhi–Dubai sector.
What stood out, however, was the follow-up entry: the insect was reportedly “hanged until death,” followed by the crew writing “Khalaas,” a slang term popular in Dubai meaning “finished” or “done.”
The incident, recorded on October 24, has drawn widespread amusement from aviation enthusiasts and frequent flyers alike.
Many called it a glimpse into the lighter side of aviation record-keeping, while others pointed out the professionalism airlines usually maintain in official documentation.

What Cabin Defect Logs Are Meant For
Cabin defect logs serve as official records for cabin crew to report any issues — from faulty seatbelts and broken entertainment screens to passenger incidents or unusual occurrences. These reports help engineers and maintenance staff assess what needs fixing once the aircraft lands.
In this case, while the cockroach’s fate might have been written humorously, the entry itself was enough to turn a routine flight note into a trending meme.
Aviation experts noted that such light-hearted remarks rarely appear in professional logs, though this one appears to have slipped through.

Air India’s Online Moment
The viral post drew thousands of comments and reposts within hours. Social media users joked about “Air India’s first public execution” and praised the crew’s creativity in documentation. Despite the humor, the airline has not issued an official statement regarding the authenticity of the log entry.
This isn’t the first time Air India has found itself at the center of online chatter. The airline, now under Tata Group ownership, has been undergoing modernization and operational upgrades since 2022.
Incidents like this, though harmless, often remind audiences that even the most structured environments can have moments of unintended comedy.
