DALLAS- Southwest Airlines (WN) flight attendant Jenny Lupton died during a layover at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu (HNL), Hawaii. The 50-year-old veteran crew member was found near a dumpster after apparently falling from the balcony of her hotel room.
Lupton’s family is seeking a thorough investigation and says they do not believe she died by suicide. According to PYOK, the family suspects the death may have resulted from an accidental fall or possible foul play.
Southwest Flight Attendant Dies During Hawaii Layover
Jenny Lupton, a longtime Southwest Airlines flight attendant, was staying at the four-star Hilton Hawaiian Village resort in Waikiki during an overnight layover between August 19 and August 20.
A hotel employee found Lupton’s body next to a dumpster on the morning of August 20. Her family believes she may have been there for several hours before she was discovered.
Lupton was from Moore, Oklahoma, near Oklahoma City. She was 50 years old and had built a long career with Dallas-based Southwest Airlines.
Family Questions Circumstances of Death
Lupton’s sister, Tresa Lupton, told local media that the family does not believe Jenny intentionally took her own life. She has called for a detailed investigation into what happened at the hotel.
Tresa said she had been communicating with Jenny through text messages in the hours before her death. She described her sister as having spent time with another flight attendant, dancing and enjoying the evening.
Jenny had also received a tattoo during the Hawaii trip, according to her sister.
The family has raised concerns about the timeline surrounding the death and the limited information it initially received from authorities.
Tresa said the family believes the circumstances point either to an accidental fall or the possibility that another person caused Jenny’s death. Those possibilities have not been established by investigators.
Southwest Airlines Offers Support
Southwest Airlines confirmed that the flight attendant died during a layover in Hawaii and expressed condolences to her family and colleagues.
The airline said it has offered support to Lupton’s family and coworkers and is cooperating with local authorities as they investigate the circumstances of her death.
The statement did not provide additional details about the incident or the investigation.
Flight Attendant Remembered by Family
Lupton is survived by her 15-year-old son, who was at home in Oklahoma when she died.
Her niece, Hannah Lupton, paid tribute to her on Facebook, describing Jenny as a joyful and memorable person who could brighten a room.
Hannah also said Jenny influenced her decision to become a flight attendant. She described their shared profession as a lasting connection and thanked her aunt for the impact she had on her life.
Investigation Remains Important to Family
The circumstances surrounding Lupton’s fall remain under investigation. Her family is seeking more information about what happened during the Hawaii layover and wants authorities to establish how she ended up outside the hotel.
