MUMBAI- India’s largest LCC, IndiGo Airlines (6E), has inaugurated two international flights on Monday (October 27, 2025) from two major Indian cities.
IndiGo launched flights to Guangzhou, China, which led to direct connectivity between India and China after a 5-year hiatus. Gurugram-based carrier also launched flights between Mumbai and London, the two major financial hubs of the world. Let’s begin the update with flights to China.

IndiGo Inaugurates China Flights
IndiGo has launched daily non-stop flights between Kolkata (CCU) and Guangzhou (CAN), marking the airline’s return to Mainland China routes. This makes IndiGo the first Indian carrier to reinstate direct connectivity between the two countries.
The route will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft, enhancing travel convenience for business and leisure passengers, while also supporting growing trade and cargo demand between eastern India and southern China.
Guangzhou (CAN), a major commercial and export hub in southern China, plays a vital role in global manufacturing and logistics.
The new Kolkata–Guangzhou route strengthens air connectivity for business travelers, exporters, and professionals operating between the two nations. The service supports India’s expanding trade relations with China, particularly in sectors like electronics, textiles, and industrial goods.
IndiGo’s addition of this route follows rising passenger and freight demand across the Indo-China corridor. By connecting Kolkata (CCU), an important gateway to eastern India, with Guangzhou, the airline facilitates quicker movement of goods and people—boosting both economies.
The carrier plans to expand further in this segment with the launch of daily Delhi (DEL)–Guangzhou (CAN) flights starting November 10, 2025. This expansion reflects IndiGo’s broader strategy to strengthen its international presence in key business markets across Asia.
According to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, the new service reinstates one of the most essential air corridors for India-China relations. He noted that direct air access between these two commercial centers will benefit exporters, professionals, and investors, while promoting tourism, education, and healthcare exchanges.
Elbers emphasized that this initiative aligns with IndiGo’s goal of expanding India’s global connectivity network, positioning the airline as a key enabler of bilateral growth and mobility.

Broader Impact on Regional Connectivity
The reinstatement of the Kolkata–Guangzhou link is expected to stimulate tourism and business travel in both directions. For Indian exporters, the direct route shortens cargo transit times, improving efficiency for trade with southern China’s manufacturing zones.
For Chinese visitors, Kolkata offers access to eastern India’s cultural and educational centers, as well as growing healthcare and business infrastructure. Together, these routes position IndiGo as a bridge between emerging markets and global business hubs.

IndiGo Launches Flights to London
IndiGo has launched its first non-stop service between Mumbai (BOM) and London Heathrow (LHR). The new daily route marks a major milestone in IndiGo’s long-haul expansion strategy and strengthens direct air connectivity between India and the United Kingdom.
The new flight, operated by IndiGo’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, offers a dual-class cabin—Economy and IndiGoStretch, the airline’s premium seating option. This service opens new travel opportunities for business and leisure passengers, linking two of the world’s most influential financial hubs.
London Heathrow, one of the busiest airports globally, represents a crucial step in IndiGo’s globalization efforts. The Mumbai–London route connects two major cities with deep economic and cultural ties, supporting the growing demand for travel between India and the UK—whether for education, business, tourism, or family visits.
With this launch, Indian passengers gain access to London and onward connections through IndiGo’s codeshare network, while UK travelers can seamlessly connect to more than 90 destinations across India. The new service enhances accessibility and expands IndiGo’s role as a key player in international travel to and from India.
Mr. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer at IndiGo, said:
We are delighted to announce the launch of direct connectivity between Mumbai and London – two vibrant, global financial hubs with deep cultural and economic ties. This route is not just a new destination for us, it’s a bridge between cultures, businesses, and families.
