NEW YORK– Emirates Airline (EK) has received the prestigious Gold Tier status in New York JFK (JFK) Airport’s 2024 Fly Quiet Programme, becoming the only airline to achieve this distinction. With a score of 92.9, Emirates outperformed every other carrier participating in the initiative.
The Fly Quiet Programme, managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, recognizes airlines that actively reduce aircraft noise through advanced operations, quieter fleets, and responsible runway use.

Emirates Earns Gold Tier for Quieter Ops
The Gold Tier award underscores Emirates’ long-standing partnership with the Port Authority and its consistent efforts to meet and exceed the Fly Quiet standards. The airline’s Flight Operations team has integrated noise reduction into daily operations at one of the world’s busiest and most complex air hubs.
This recognition builds on Emirates’ earlier achievements in the U.S., including Silver Tier status at Newark (EWR) and the Chairperson’s Award at San Francisco (SFO). Each award reflects the airline’s focus on operational efficiency, responsible performance, and community impact.
Emirates’ all wide-body fleet operates with a cumulative margin exceeding 12 EPNdB below ICAO Chapter 4 limits.
The airline achieves high efficiency by transporting an average of 1.75 million passenger-kilometers per sector — one arrival and one departure — balancing capacity with minimal noise output.
For example, a single Emirates Airbus A380 can serve 500 passengers with one arrival and one departure noise event. Comparable operations using smaller aircraft would require multiple flights and possibly a technical stop, creating up to twelve noise events.
Emirates’ operational model, based on long-range, high-capacity aircraft, ensures fewer flights and less overall noise impact per passenger carried.

Community and Environmental Responsibility
Aircraft noise reduction supports the well-being of airport-neighboring communities. Emirates’ strategy demonstrates how global connectivity can coexist with environmental responsibility.
By optimizing flight paths, maintaining high-capacity efficiency, and minimizing unnecessary noise, the airline reduces its environmental footprint while maintaining essential international links.
Air connectivity also drives broader socio-economic benefits: fostering trade, supporting tourism, generating jobs, and strengthening community ties worldwide.

A Comprehensive Noise Reduction Strategy
Emirates’ approach to quieter operations is structured around several core principles:
Strict compliance and procedures: The airline mandates adherence to Noise Abatement Departure Procedures (NADP) as outlined by state authorities. These are integrated into Emirates’ Standard Operating Procedures and applied across all flights.
Preferential runway use: Emirates prioritizes Preferential Runways whenever feasible, even under challenging operational conditions, ensuring safety and compliance.
Accountability and transparency: Any procedural deviation triggers mandatory reporting and review, ensuring continual improvement through data-driven accountability.
Quiet, modern fleet: Emirates continues to invest in modern wide-body aircraft that meet or exceed ICAO Chapter 4 and Chapter 14 standards. Fleet renewal remains central to its long-term environmental strategy.
Stakeholder collaboration: The airline maintains open engagement with airport authorities, regulators, and industry working groups, ensuring transparency and alignment on best practices in noise management.
