WASHINGTON DC- Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) is set to expand its international network with a groundbreaking nonstop service connecting Queen Alia International Airport, Amman (AMM), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), marking a significant milestone in the carrier’s strategic growth plan.
The new route, scheduled to commence on March 23, 2025, will operate twice weekly using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, effectively increasing the airline’s US gateway presence to four destinations.
Royal Jordanian Amman to Washington
The meticulously planned route will feature two weekly flights:
- RJ282 departing Amman at 11:45 AM and arriving in Washington DC at 5:45 PM,
- The return flight RJ283 will leave Washington DC at 8:50 PM and land in Amman at 3:25 PM the following day.
Note: All timings mentioned above are local times.
This addition complements Royal Jordanian’s existing US routes, which currently include New York JFK, Chicago O’Hare (ORD), and Detroit (DTW).
Royal Jordanian Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Samer Majali emphasized the strategic importance of this new service, stating that the Washington DC route represents more than just network expansion.
He further articulated the airline’s ambitious vision of becoming the premier carrier in the Levant region, positioning the Washington route as a critical step toward achieving this goal.
Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar, described the new air service as a transformative connection that transcends mere transportation. She emphasized the route’s potential to bridge cultural understanding, allowing travelers to experience Jordan’s complex narrative of historical depth and contemporary dynamism.
Chryssa Westerlund, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s executive vice president and chief revenue officer, warmly welcomed Royal Jordanian Airlines to IAD. She highlighted the route’s significance in strengthening diplomatic, commercial, and tourism connections between Washington, D.C., and the Middle East.
Westerlund characterized the new nonstop service to Amman as a critical pathway for government, business, and tourism exchanges in an increasingly important and evolving global market.
Recently, United Airlines (UA) cut its Boeing 787 operated nonstop flights between Washington Dulles and Amman. The airline launched IAD-AMM flights in 2022. However, the Middle East tensions forced the airline to terminate the route in August 2024.
