CARACAS- The Venezuelan government has expressed its disapproval of the decision made by US authorities to disassemble an Emtrasur Boeing 747 that had been confiscated in Buenos Aires approximately two years ago.
Emblazoned by Emtrasur, a subsidiary of the state-owned Conviasa, the aircraft became the focal point of a legal dispute when the U.S. government alleged that it was involved in activities contravening sanctions, particularly those against Iran. On February 12, the 747 was transported from Buenos Aires to Florida.

Recent images circulated on social media depict the fuselage of the aircraft, devoid of markings and with its engines removed, undergoing the process of dismantling.
The Venezuelan government asserted that the aircraft was “destroyed” following its alleged “theft” from the Argentine territory and strongly condemned what it labelled an “act of vandalism.”
This denouncement resonates with the sentiments expressed by the Latin American intergovernmental economic organization ALBA-TCP, of which Venezuela is a founding member.
ALBA-TCP characterizes the incident as an “unjustifiable destruction” of the 747.
Equipped with General Electric CF6 engines, the aircraft was initially delivered to the French carrier UTA in 1986.
