DUBAI- An online video has emerged depicting a flight crew member of Emirates Airlines (EK) managing an unruly passenger. The Emirates cabin crew faced a challenging situation on a flight from Dubai (DXB) to Islamabad (ISB), dealing with a reportedly violent, intoxicated passenger.
The incident took place on Emirates flight EK614 during the night between February 24 and 25, spanning the two-and-a-half-hour journey to Islamabad.
Emirates Crew Tackle Unruly Passenger
Social media circulated video footage revealing cabin crew members using flexicuffs to restrain the disruptive passenger, who had exhibited violent behavior during the flight. The crew successfully subdued the individual, employing black flexicuffs provided by fellow crew members.
It is reported that Emirates cabin crew undergo annual Taekwondo training to handle and control disruptive passengers effectively. This training equips them with the necessary skills to manage such situations professionally and efficiently.
The aircraft touched down in Islamabad at approximately 1:20 am on February 26, and the inebriated passenger was assisted off the plane in a wheelchair.
Despite attempts to pacify and sober the individual with water, reports indicate that the passenger continued to display disruptive behavior.
Common Occurrence on Pakistan-Bound Flights
While the disruptive actions instilled fear among fellow passengers, there are indications that the individual may possess influential connections, potentially allowing them to evade criminal charges.
Despite requests for comment by media publications, Emirates has not yet issued a formal statement on the incident by the time of publication. The awaited response from the airline may provide additional insights into the occurrence and the measures taken to address it.
Instances of intoxication on flights to Pakistan are not uncommon, as some passengers perceive it as an opportunity to consume alcohol before reaching a destination where alcohol consumption is strictly regulated, primarily permitted for foreigners in specific hotels.
