IndiGo is in talks with Airbus to purchase “several hundred aircrafts,” according to comments made by French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire in comments published by Les Echos on Thursday.
The contract might be finalised during the French airshow in Le Bourget in June, according to the newspaper, which also said that Le Maire made the remarks while visiting India for a G20 summit.
A spokeswoman for Airbus claimed that the company was continuously in contact with airlines but declined to comment on any potential negotiations. An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by IndiGo.
Air India Aircraft order
Air India, Indigo’s local rival, announced last week that it had placed a record-breaking order for 470 aircraft with Airbus and Boeing.
The provisional agreements break previous records for a single airline and include 220 Boeing and 250 Airbus jets as Air India competes with domestic behemoth IndiGo to serve what will soon be the world’s largest population.
