BRUSSELS- Lufthansa (LH) is entering into a new partnership with Brussels Airlines (SN) and United Airlines (UA): Teams located in Frankfurt (FRA), Chicago (ORD), and Brussels (BRU) are working together to synchronize flights from the USA to Africa. The German carrier CEO Carsten Spohr anticipates a “major project” at the Group’s hub in Brussels.
Lufthansa aims to transform Brussels into a pivotal point for connecting flights between Africa and the United States.

As per CEO Carsten Spohr, Lufthansa is in discussions with United Airlines regarding joint “Africa flights via Brussels.” “This initiative with United is substantial, and we anticipate substantial benefits,” Spohr stated last week in Frankfurt.
Moreover, Lufthansa intends to accelerate the revitalization of Brussels Airlines’ short-haul network. The group has recognized that it had reduced capacity excessively in Brussels and intends to augment feeder traffic once again for the lucrative African routes, as announced by Spohr.
Brussels Airlines refrains from providing detailed comments on the project. However, a spokesperson disclosed to aero.de that the airline harbors ambitious growth plans for its long-haul network.
The Belgian subsidiary of Lufthansa emphasizes its existing partnerships with United and Air Canada (AC) concerning the North Atlantic route.
These “transatlantic capacities” have the potential to elevate Brussels into a genuine global hub for passengers journeying to and from Africa, according to the spokesperson.
With ten Airbus A330s soon to be available for the intercontinental network, Brussels Airlines aims to maximize the utilization of its long-haul fleet compared to pre-crisis levels, with increased round-trip flights to Africa. Currently, the airline operates flights to 18 destinations across the continent.
