GURUGRAM- IndiGo (6E) flight 6E6017 operating from Bengaluru (BLR) to Chennai (MAA) was evacuated after smoke was detected inside the aircraft while it was taxiing for departure on May 26, 2026.
The airline later confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated and moved to the terminal.
A passenger-recorded video shared after the incident showed people standing and walking on the aircraft wing during the evacuation process.
The footage also drew attention to claims that an overwing exit slide did not deploy as expected during the emergency response.

IndiGo Flight Evacuated Amid Smoke Alert
IndiGo (6E) flight 6E6017 was preparing for departure from Bengaluru (BLR) to Chennai (MAA) when smoke was noticed inside the aircraft during taxiing operations.
In response, the crew initiated an immediate evacuation procedure and informed relevant authorities.
Following the evacuation, passenger Deepan Qweeter Kannan shared a video on X that showed passengers standing on one of the aircraft wings during the emergency.
According to the passenger’s account, the right-side overwing exit slide did not inflate during the evacuation process.
The passenger stated that some individuals initially moved onto the aircraft wing and later had to return inside the aircraft to exit through another route.
The video reportedly showed passengers attempting to move back toward the cabin area after standing on the wing.

Passenger Raises Safety Concerns After Evacuation
The passenger also expressed concern about potential risks during emergency situations where evacuation procedures become complicated.
In another statement shared on social media, he wrote:
“I hope you will look into this as well in your investigation. It could have caused a serious problem for the safe exit of the people. In their panic, people could have fallen or had caused serious injury to themselves. Please ensure this is investigated properly.”
Before sharing the video, the same passenger also posted his immediate reaction after the incident.
“There was smoke in my Indigo flight from Bangalore to Chennai. We had to evacuate immediately. I am still shaking. So scary.”
These comments reflected the concerns raised by passengers immediately after the evacuation process.

IndiGo Issues Official Statement
In its statement dated May 26, IndiGo confirmed that smoke was detected while the aircraft was taxiing toward the runway before departure.
The airline stated that all customers and crew members were evacuated safely and moved back to the terminal, where teams attended to their well-being. IndiGo also confirmed that refreshments were provided while passengers waited.
The airline arranged an alternate aircraft for the Bengaluru to Chennai service and stated that the flight would depart shortly.
IndiGo said:
“At IndiGo, the safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority.”
According to Hindustan Times, aviation incidents involving emergency evacuations often receive close attention because evacuation procedures and equipment performance remain critical elements of passenger safety.

Emergency Evacuations and Safety Procedures
Aircraft evacuation procedures are designed to move passengers out of the cabin quickly and safely during emergencies.
Cabin crew members receive training to manage passenger movement and redirect individuals if specific exits become unavailable.
Emergency slides and overwing exits serve as important safety systems during evacuations. If one route cannot be used, alternate exits are activated to maintain passenger flow and reduce the possibility of injuries during high-pressure situations.
Post-incident reviews generally examine aircraft systems, evacuation efficiency, and crew response procedures to identify any required operational improvements.
