SEATTLE- United Airlines (UA) is preparing to receive its first upgraded Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring redesigned Polaris suites and the largest seatback screens offered by any US carrier.
The aircraft is expected to serve routes linking San Francisco (SFO) with Singapore (SIN) and London (LHR), marking a major step in United’s premium travel upgrades.

United First 787 with New Polaris Suites
United Airlines is introducing a newly configured Boeing 787-9 aimed at attracting premium international travelers through upgraded cabins and enhanced onboard services.
The aircraft, registered N21102, recently completed final pre-delivery flights at Boeing’s Charleston (CHS) facility. A positioning flight to Washington Dulles (IAD) appeared in tracking systems as part of routine pre-delivery operations, though the airline later confirmed delivery had not yet occurred.
Once delivered, the aircraft will operate from United’s San Francisco hub on high-demand long-haul routes, including Singapore and London. These routes attract strong premium demand, making them ideal for the carrier’s newest cabin product.
The delivery also begins a broader fleet modernization plan, with United expecting 30 similarly configured Dreamliners to enter service during 2026 and 2027, Simple Flying reported.

New Polaris Business Class Experience
The redesigned Boeing 787-9 introduces United’s next-generation Polaris Business Class suites.
Key upgrades include:
- Privacy doors on all Polaris suites
- Larger personal storage areas
- Companion ottoman seating for shared dining
- 27-inch 4K seatback screens
- Enhanced bedding and amenity kits
United now offers 64 Polaris seats on this configuration, including eight premium Polaris Studio suites positioned at the front of the cabin.
Passengers also receive upgraded dining options, including amuse-bouche service with Ossetra caviar and premium champagne pairings. United has invested heavily in onboard catering upgrades across long-haul services.

Premium Plus and Economy Cabin Improvements
United has also refreshed its Premium Plus product, increasing comfort for premium economy travelers.
Enhancements include:
- Privacy dividers between seats
- Wireless charging options
- Larger entertainment screens
- Expanded seat storage
The cabin layout provides 35 Premium Plus seats, helping United offer one of the highest premium seat ratios among US carriers.
Economy passengers also benefit from improved seatback entertainment and updated cabin interiors, with 33 Economy Plus seats and 90 standard Economy seats onboard.

Cabin Configuration Breakdown
The new Boeing 787-9 layout includes:
- Polaris Studio Suites: 8 seats
- Polaris Business Suites: 56 seats
- Premium Plus: 35 seats
- Economy Plus: 33 seats
- Economy: 90 seats
This results in 99 premium seats, the highest proportion of premium seating in United’s fleet.
Older United 787-9 aircraft currently operate with fewer premium seats, making this new configuration a significant upgrade.

Fleet Modernization and Passenger Focus
United continues investing in passenger experience improvements, including onboard connectivity upgrades and enhanced dining options. The airline has also invested over $150 million in food and beverage improvements and premium cabin services.
With more than 1,000 aircraft in its mainline fleet, United aims to differentiate itself through premium cabin offerings and technology improvements, targeting high-value international travelers.
The delivery of N21102 marks the beginning of a new generation of Dreamliners that will gradually reshape United’s long-haul passenger experience.
