SYDNEY- Univision Chicago weather anchor Valeria López sparked a global viral moment when she appeared on air wearing a dress identical to the flight attendant uniform of Qantas (QF), Australia’s flag carrier. Viewers 10,000 miles away in Australia instantly recognized the outfit.
The Spanish-language broadcaster made no mention of the clothing, and no airline collaboration occurred. This accidental choice quickly spread among aviation fans after a flight attendant shared a screenshot.

Qantas Cabin Crew Uniform Viral
The presenter was Valeria López, a weather anchor at Univision Chicago, who appeared wearing a dress familiar to many airline employees and aviation enthusiasts.
The outfit matched the official Qantas cabin crew uniform introduced in 2013 and designed by Martin Grant.
Unveiled more than a decade ago, the uniform has remained in continuous service. Its distinctive design features knock out fuchsia pink and deep red color blocking, a scoop neckline, and elbow-length sleeves.
These tell-tale elements make the uniform difficult to confuse with any other designer piece.
A Qantas flight attendant captured a screenshot of the live broadcast and shared it in A Fly Guy’s Cabin Crew Lounge, a popular Facebook community for cabin crew professionals. The image quickly circulated, drawing reactions from airline staff and viewers worldwide.
Reported by PYOK, the presenter did not refer to the outfit, and there was no indication of sponsorship, endorsement, or intentional styling linked to the airline.

Not the First Time This Has Happened
This incident is not isolated. Members of the same cabin crew community pointed out previous cases involving television presenters wearing outfits closely resembling airline uniforms.
In one example, a Hungarian news presenter appeared on air in what looked like the same Qantas cabin crew uniform.
In another case, a US news presenter wore a dress resembling the cabin crew uniform of Southwest Airlines.
In that instance, the distinctive front zip element instantly revealed the uniform’s origin, suggesting more than a coincidental design similarity.

Why Airline Uniforms Appear on Television
The most likely explanation lies in wardrobe sourcing practices. Television presenters often work with limited clothing budgets while needing unique and visually striking outfits.
As a result, stylists frequently turn to online resale platforms such as eBay and Vinted.
Former and sometimes current airline employees sell uniform items online. To avoid detection by brand security teams, these garments are often listed simply as pre-owned dresses rather than uniforms. For buyers unfamiliar with airline branding, the risk of accidental use is high.

Qantas Prepares to Retire the Iconic Look
More Qantas uniforms are expected to appear on resale platforms in the coming years. The airline has selected Rebecca Vallance to design a new cabin crew uniform.
The update aligns with Qantas’ long-haul initiative, Project Sunrise, which will introduce non-stop flights connecting Sydney (SYD) with London and Paris for the first time.
As the new uniform enters service, the long-standing Martin Grant design is expected to be phased out.
