NOIDA- The long-awaited Noida International Airport (NIA), located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is nearing a major milestone as it prepares to launch flight operations by mid-December 2025.
Developed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), the airport is designed to serve as the second major aviation hub for the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), complementing Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).

Noida International Airport Ready for Launch
In its initial phase, NIA will host maiden flights by leading Indian carriers, including IndiGo (6E), Akasa Air (QP), and Air India Express (IX), reported DNA India.
Officials have confirmed that these airlines are in the process of finalizing their operational schedules, expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The airport’s Phase 1 infrastructure is ready for commercial activity, pending final clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
According to Shailendra Bhatia, the nodal officer for Noida International Airport Ltd (NIAL), discussions are in their final stages to confirm the first set of routes. The inaugural operations will likely connect major Indian cities such as:
- Mumbai
- Bengaluru
- Hyderabad
The airport is also expected to focus on regional connectivity, aligning with the government’s UDAN scheme to enhance accessibility between Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
This strategic approach aims to distribute passenger traffic more efficiently across the NCR region and relieve congestion at Delhi’s primary hub.

Key Features of Phase 1
The first phase of Noida International Airport includes one 3,900-meter runway and a passenger terminal designed to handle 12 million passengers annually.
The airport spans 1,334 hectares, featuring modern facilities, green technology, and a modular design that allows for seamless expansion.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu has emphasized that NIA will initially connect at least ten domestic cities, with a long-term goal of developing into a major cargo hub.
As operations stabilize, the airport is expected to support both passenger and freight traffic, boosting regional economic growth and positioning Uttar Pradesh as a logistics powerhouse.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has already approved the airside infrastructure, marking one of the final steps before DGCA issues the aerodrome license.
Once granted, airlines will be permitted to commence route testing and ground handling procedures ahead of official commercial launches.

Bottom Line
The upcoming launch of Noida International Airport represents a significant step in India’s aviation infrastructure growth.
With leading carriers preparing to begin operations and regulatory clearances nearly complete, NIA is on track to become one of the country’s most advanced and strategically located airports.
Its successful launch will not only enhance air connectivity across northern India but also reshape the air travel experience for millions of passengers in the NCR region.
