FRANKFURT- Discover Airlines (4Y), the leisure carrier under the Lufthansa Group, has announced an ambitious expansion plan that will see its fleet grow to 40 aircraft by mid-2028.
The airline’s next milestone will be the introduction of four Airbus A350-900 aircraft starting in 2027, marking a major technological upgrade in its long-haul fleet. The A350-900 is among the most advanced wide-body aircraft in the world, known particularly for its fuel efficiency.

Discover Airlines Eyes A350
By 2026, Discover Airlines plans to expand its long-haul fleet to 16 Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The addition of five A330-300s will replace three retiring A330-200s, ensuring better fuel economy and passenger comfort.
This move is aligned with the airline’s strategy to optimize fleet uniformity for operational efficiency.
From 2027, the introduction of the Airbus A350-900 will further enhance the airline’s long-haul capabilities.
Initially, these aircraft could serve existing routes such as Windhoek (WDH) and Orlando (MCO). With their extended range, the A350s will enable Discover Airlines to consider new destinations across South and Central America, southern Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Growth in Short-Haul Operations
Discover Airlines’ expansion is not limited to long-haul travel. Its short- and medium-haul network will also see significant growth.
The airline currently operates 16 Airbus A320 aircraft, serving popular vacation destinations across Europe and North Africa.
Two additional A320s will be added in 2026, followed by two more by mid-2028, bringing the total to 20.
This increase will allow Discover Airlines to expand its presence in leisure markets and improve connectivity between European hubs and holiday regions. The expansion aligns with the carrier’s goal of offering seamless travel experiences within the Lufthansa Group’s network.

Commitment to Passenger Comfort
Starting in 2027, Discover Airlines will equip its Airbus A330 fleet with new-generation cabins across all three travel classes. The upgrade will introduce enhanced seating, improved in-flight entertainment, and modern cabin design.
This reflects the airline’s ongoing investment in passenger comfort and its commitment to delivering premium leisure travel experiences.
The upcoming A350-900s will take this commitment further, offering quieter operations, better air quality, and improved humidity for long-haul travelers.
The aircraft’s lower fuel burn and reduced emissions also align with Lufthansa Group’s broader sustainability goals.

CEO Remarks
Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines, emphasized that the fleet expansion represents a critical step in the airline’s evolution.
He said the integration of the Airbus A350 will allow Discover Airlines to provide “even more comfort and attractive options” for passengers, while supporting the Lufthansa Group’s strength in the leisure travel market.
Bauer highlighted that additional aircraft and extended range will enable the airline to meet the growing demand for high-quality vacation travel.

Bottom Line
Discover Airlines’ upcoming fleet expansion marks a new chapter in its growth story. With the addition of the Airbus A350-900 and a modernized A330 fleet, the airline is set to enhance operational efficiency, environmental performance, and passenger comfort.
