DUBLIN- The proposed plans originate from DA Terminal 3 Ltd for Dublin Airport (DUB), founded by Des and Ulick McEvaddy, aimed at advancing a third terminal at the airport for future enhancement.
The company underscores that the plan outlines a definitive vision for Dublin Airport’s third terminal within the new Western Campus project, poised to play a pivotal role in Ireland’s future transportation infrastructure.
Concept Plan For Dublin Airport
The company emphasized that sustainability and accessibility constitute a fundamental aspect of the plan.
Plans for a potential third terminal at Dublin Airport envision utilizing land between the existing runways for its location.
A new Western Campus is proposed to accommodate a cargo terminal, hotel, parking facilities, and office space.
Further, the current development strategy for Dublin Airport aims to achieve a passenger volume of 40 million by 2030.
DA Terminal 3 Ltd acknowledged the necessity for further planning in 2027, asserting that their project surpasses short-term perspectives by offering a sustainable long-term solution.
The McEvaddy brothers, owners of a plot spanning over 200 acres near Dublin Airport for 27 years, are willing to collaborate with prospective developers interested in establishing a substantive third terminal.
While the DAA expressed goodwill towards McEvaddy’s endeavors, they emphasized their infrastructure development focus, designed to meet the practical requirements of passengers and airlines.
The DAA wished the McEvaddys success in their venture and acknowledged the complexity that planning authorities may encounter if a future planning application is submitted.
Development Strategies
A DA Terminal 3 Ltd representative expressed Dublin Airport’s need to address upcoming challenges proactively. They criticized the current discourse advocating for a passenger cap increase to 40 million, deeming it short-sighted and lacking foresight.
Emphasizing the importance of a strategic approach aligned with future demands, they highlighted plans for a comprehensive master plan. This plan aims to cater to passenger needs and establish the Western Campus as a vital economic center for Fingal and Dublin.
They contrasted the proposed €2.2 billion investment for a modest 20% capacity increase with the potential to double capacity by constructing a new terminal building for a similar cost.
Concept plans for the Western Campus have been unveiled, marking the initial phase of the planning process, which will progress through pre-planning presentations to a formal planning application.
DA Terminal 3 Ltd expressed willingness to collaborate with relevant national stakeholders to optimize planning for the Fingal/Dublin Airport zoned lands.
