TOKYO- Japan Airlines (JAL) marked the inauguration of its nonstop flight between Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND). This milestone makes JAL the first Japanese carrier to offer direct flights between the Middle East and Japan.
The service operates as a code-share arrangement with Qatar Airways (QR), a fellow member of the oneworld® alliance. With this new route, passengers can conveniently access destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South America via Qatar Airways’ extensive network.
Japan Airlines Inaugurates Tokyo-Doha Flight
The inaugural flight, JL059, departed from HND with a full load of passengers on Japan Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. It arrived at DOH this morning as planned, receiving a warm welcome with a water cannon salute.
A ceremony was held at Hamad International Airport in collaboration with Qatar Airways and Japan Airlines, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local dignitaries.
Ross Leggett, Japan Airlines Managing Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of Route Marketing remarked on the launch: “Our new service to Doha marks the first direct flight from the Middle East operated by a Japanese airline.
It perfectly complements JAL’s global network and facilitates seamless connections for customers traveling from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South America through our partnership with Qatar Airways, a fellow member of the oneworld alliance.”
Leggett added, “The demand for travel from Doha to Asia continues to grow, and we are excited to extend JAL’s renowned service to even more travelers.”

Qatar Airways Welcomes Flight
Thierry Antinori, Chief Commercial Officer of Qatar Airways, expressed his satisfaction with the arrival of Japan Airlines in Doha, emphasizing the importance of strengthening their successful partnership for passengers traveling between Japan, North Asia, and the rest of the world.
Antinori highlighted the effectiveness of their strategy in utilizing Hamad International Airport as a top-rated global hub and expressed hopes of attracting more partner airlines to this key gateway and layover destination in the future.
Japan Airlines will operate daily nonstop service between DOH and HND using its JAL SKY SUITE 787 (Boeing 787-9) aircraft. The aircraft features a two-class configuration, including 52 fully flat seats in JAL Business Class, known as JAL SKY SUITE Ⅲ, and 151 JAL SKY WIDER seats in JAL Economy Class, both of which have received industry recognition.
Passengers can enjoy JAL’s latest inflight entertainment system, Magic-VI, which is accessible via touchscreen monitors at every seat. Additionally, inflight Wi-Fi is available for a fee.
