SYDNEY– Emirates (EK) has brought its new Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 aircraft livery to Australia, using a flagship Airbus A380 to build anticipation for next year’s tournament.
The specially painted A6-EVH arrived at Sydney Airport (SYD) on Wednesday while operating Emirates (EK) flight EK412 from Dubai.
The aircraft is continuing to Christchurch Airport (CHC), extending the livery’s first journey across two major rugby markets. The arrival comes as Australia prepares to host the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, with the tournament scheduled to begin on October 1, 2027.
Emirates A380 Debuts New Rugby Livery
The new design takes its visual inspiration from the official Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 branding.
A large rugby ball forms the centre of the orange design, giving the A380 a distinctive appearance that links Emirates’ aircraft with the upcoming Australian tournament.
A6-EVH will wear the special colours for a full year, allowing the aircraft to promote the tournament across Emirates’ international network.
Its appearance in Sydney also gives the airline a strong presence in the host country well before the competition begins.
The aircraft’s first rugby-themed journey connects Sydney and Christchurch, two cities located in countries where rugby has a major following.
Emirates already serves both Sydney and Christchurch within its Australia and New Zealand network.
Fifth Consecutive Rugby World Cup Livery
The new A380 marks Emirates’ fifth consecutive Rugby World Cup livery, continuing an aircraft branding tradition that began with the 2011 tournament.
The airline has maintained a long-running relationship with rugby and has appeared as a commercial partner across multiple editions of the global competition.
Emirates’ relationship with World Rugby began in 2007, when it became a partner of the organisation and the Rugby World Cup.
In November 2025, the partnership was extended through at least 2035, covering the major men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups during that period.
The agreement also strengthens Emirates’ role around World Rugby events and includes support for match officials. The airline has additionally maintained its sponsorship of rugby competitions and development programmes, extending its involvement beyond the Rugby World Cup itself.
Australia Connection Grows Through Rugby Partnerships
The livery also highlights Emirates’ long-standing connection with Australia. The airline began flying to the country in 1996 and has since developed a large network serving major Australian cities.
Sydney has been particularly important to Emirates, which marked 25 years of service to the city in 2025.
The airline said it had carried more than nine million passengers between Sydney and its network during those 25 years, with the route now operated exclusively by the A380.
With the Rugby World Cup 2027 aircraft now travelling internationally, Emirates will keep the tournament visible across its network before the competition reaches Australia.
The A380 therefore serves as both a long-haul aircraft and a moving promotional platform for one of rugby’s biggest upcoming events.
