FORT WORTH- Reports indicate that a mother of two from central Indiana passed away after falling ill on a U.S.-bound American Airlines (AA) flight from the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old woman was onboard American Airlines Flight AA2790 from Punta Cana to Charlotte, North Carolina, when her health unexpectedly deteriorated, as stated by the police.
American Airlines Passenger Dies
CPR was administered on the plane, and subsequently, the aircraft was diverted to the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory situated in the southeast of the Bahamas, according to local law enforcement.
Medical personnel and law enforcement were dispatched to the aircraft, and the woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was later declared deceased, as indicated in a Facebook post by the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force.
Authorities mentioned that a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
American Airlines verified to Fox News Digital that the flight was diverted to Providenciales International Airport (PLS) and that the woman was taken to the hospital. The airline further stated that the flight resumed its journey to Charlotte the following day.
Although the passenger’s identity remains undisclosed, FOX 59 reports that she was from central Indiana. A woman on Facebook identified the passenger as her sister-in-law.
Finding the Cause of Death
“We are in shock, and our hearts are shattered,” expressed Stephanie Quinn in response to the police statement.
Quinn portrayed her sister-in-law as the only girl among five siblings and the mother of two “beautiful children with big hearts and straight As.”
It remains unclear whether her children or other family members accompanied the 41-year-old during the flight when she fell ill.
