Furthermore, according to Enilria’s report, Spirit is set to include San Juan (SJU) in its route offerings for both Houston (IAH) and New Orleans (MSY).
Louisville sees a substantial increase with Spirit expanding its network to 7 destinations this summer, introducing flights to EWR, DFW, and MIA. Initially planned for twice-daily service during the Kentucky Derby in May, these routes have now been extended to regular service.
Spirit is also relaunching Boston to Newark flights starting May 8, resuming a route it last operated in 2021. If Newark is considered a New York City Area airport, there are approximately 50 daily flights between Boston and New York City Area airports (JFK, LGA, EWR).
Spirit will be the sole ultra-low-cost carrier offering service between Boston and New York City with its twice-daily flights.
Cancelled Summer Routes
Spirit Airlines has recently scrapped a dozen routes for the upcoming summer season. This decision follows the airline’s recent actions of delaying service to Tulum, Mexico (TQO) and temporarily suspending operations in Manchester, New Hampshire (MHT).
Furthermore, the newly canceled routes encompass those currently in operation that will conclude soon and those initially set to resume during the summer but have now been removed from the schedule. These include:
- Raleigh/Durham (RDU) to Orlando (MCO)
- Memphis (MEM) to Los Angeles (LAX)
- Boston (BOS) to Las Vegas (LAS)
- Boston (BOS) to Tampa (TPA)
- Boston (BOS) to Miami (MIA)
- Boston (BOS) to Fort Myers (RSW)
- Cleveland (CLE) to Las Vegas (LAS)
- Cleveland (CLE) to Miami (MIA)
- Cleveland (CLE) to Atlanta (ATL)
- Atlanta (ATL) to Fort Myers (RSW)
- Detroit (DTW) to Miami (MIA)
- Dallas (DFW) to Oakland (OAK)
Given the inherent volatility of ultra-low-cost carriers, there remains a possibility for these routes to make a return in the future. Alongside these route adjustments, Spirit has also modified its overall summer schedule, implementing frequency changes for numerous routes.
