MUMBAI- The Tata Group is in the advanced stages of constructing a fresh business framework for Air India Express (IX) as it prepares to integrate its business divisions under the airline’s umbrella.
This integration aims to achieve uniform compensation levels throughout the combined entity, comprising Air India Express and AirAsia India (I5) [AIX Connect]. Three individuals familiar with the matter disclosed these developments to Mint.
Air India Express Salary and Business Model
According to one of the sources mentioned earlier, “The low-cost airline is streamlining its business verticals and bringing in pay parity between the workforce of the two erstwhile airlines.”
In the previous week, the airline implemented a harmonized structure encompassing new designations, remuneration plans, and benefits across the organization.
This move enhances transparency and furnishes enhanced career advancement avenues for all staff members. The airline emphasized that this fresh compensation structure aligns with the recently established designations and levels at Air India (AI).
An industry insider shared with Mint that the combined entity, currently pending final regulatory nods from the Competition Commission of India, is also instituting a linear hierarchy under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Aloke Singh.
The updated compensation structure for both Air India Express and AIX Connect is intended not only to attract but also to retain top-tier talent across the various functions within the airline.
The revamped pay framework aims to be more market-responsive and competitive.
Finding Balance
“The legacy compensation structure for Air India Express employees is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul,” the executive stated, noting that the forthcoming weeks will witness the implementation of a fresh compensation framework designed to align the salaries of both airlines.
A second executive added, “In specific domains, the benefits accorded to Tata’s airline were superior, while the overall remuneration for the AirAsia workforce had been higher. The forthcoming structure will effectively establish parity.”
These alterations within the domain of low-cost airlines are emerging merely months after the restructuring of salaries within the combined entity of Air India, a full-service carrier, and Vistara Airlines (UK).
In addition to introducing a new logo and livery for Air India in early August, the Tata Group is concurrently crafting a novel brand identity for Air India Express, slated for introduction between late September and early October.
The debut of the first aircraft donning the refreshed branding of Air India Express is set for October, coinciding with the arrival of the airline’s inaugural new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
UMNR Service
Tata Air India Express (IX) and AirAsia India (I5) have jointly introduced their Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR) service, a secure and specialized travel option tailored for young travelers aged between five and twelve years, facilitating their journeys across all direct routes.
Originally available on international flights, this service has now been expanded and enhanced to encompass domestic routes.
This extension assures parents and guardians that these young explorers will receive dedicated care and enjoy a seamless and delightful travel experience.
The UMNR service can be conveniently reserved through the airline’s official website, airindiaexpress.com, or at airport sales counters. Further, the service starts from a nominal price of Rs. 5,000.
With this service, young travelers will receive exclusive assistance from airline personnel. They will receive a personal welcome at the terminal prior to airport security checks. They will be supported throughout all mandatory travel formalities at the airport.
A valid photo identification document is necessary for both the child and the accompanying parent or guardian during departure and arrival, serving as a verification process.
The parent or guardian must accompany the child to the airport. They should arrive at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure for domestic flights.
