NOIDA- Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, announced on August 10, 2023, that the initial runway of the Noida International Airport (NIA), currently under construction in Jewar, is anticipated to be completed by the end of this year.
The NIA, a flagship project of the BJP, is slated to become the world’s fourth-largest and the largest in Asia upon its completion.
Asia’s Largest Airport Runway Update
During the inauguration of flight service from Lucknow to Varanasi, Yogi Adityanath remarked,
“The Ayodhya airport is expected to commence operations by November or December of this year. The first runway of the Jewar airport is also set to be prepared by the year’s end.”

Discussing the upcoming airport, BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh emphasized the rapid progress of its construction and highlighted the significant impact it is expected to have on the economy of Greater Noida and the entire Uttar Pradesh region.
“The construction work at the airport site is progressing accelerated. The proactive measures taken by the government to ensure security and safety have facilitated the smooth execution of the airport’s construction. This airport’s positive effects will extend beyond Greater Noida, benefiting the entire western part of Uttar Pradesh.”

In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the foundation laying for the Noida International Airport in Jewar.
Encompassing an expansive area of 1,334 acres, the Noida International Airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a fully-owned subsidiary of Swiss concessionaire Zurich International Airport AG.
Yogi Govt Announcement on Jewar Airport
The recent notification issued by the authorities pertains to the acquisition of 2,053 hectares of land for the third phase of the expansion of the airport. The land for the first and second phases has already been acquired, covering 1,365 hectares and 1,334 hectares, respectively.
As per the development plan, the third phase will include the construction of three additional runways alongside the existing ones.
Under the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (Uttar Pradesh) Rules, 2016, the consent of landowners will be sought before acquiring the land for the third phase.
The villages impacted by the acquisition include Thora, Neemka Shahjahanpur, Khwajapur, Ramner, Kishorpur, Banwaribans, Parohi, Mukimpur Shiwara, Jewar Bangar, Sabauta Mustafabad, Ahmadpur Chauroli, Dayanatpur, Bankapur, and Rohi. These villages account for a total of 1,888.90 hectares out of the 2,053 hectares to be acquired.
With the Lok Sabha elections tentatively scheduled between April and June 2024, the development of a world-class airport in a state that contributes 80 Members of Parliament could be a significant project to showcase during the election campaign.
The construction work for the first phase of the airport is currently underway and is expected to be completed for commercial operations by September 2024.
