SpiceJet ‘s ambition to boost flights has met a snag due to the lack of new MAX planes, with Boeing agreeing to deliver only three of the airline’s requested ten planes.
"The airline requires these planes for two reasons: first, they will replace ageing planes with new ones, and second, they will generate revenue via sales and leasebacks. Boeing appears to be focusing more on Akasa right now, therefore SpiceJet is getting fewer planes "according to a source within the business.

Akasa, which has placed an order for 72 Boeing 737 MAX planes, has stated that they will expand their fleet to 18 planes in the first year of operation, which is expected to happen in June.
The airline plans to add 12 to 14 MAX aircraft per year for the first five years, bringing the total fleet size to 72 aircraft.
According to sources, one of the main reasons Akasa purchased MAX was because the manufacturer agreed to the airline’s delivery timeline, something Airbus couldn’t guarantee because to the long wait for the Airbus 320. (neos).
Boeing had only one customer for its MAX aircraft in India after Jet Airways was grounded, and it was keen to get a new customer on board.

While Boeing did not answer to the inquiry, SpiceJet stated that up to 20 aircraft will be inducted in the next year.
