DAMASCUS— Syria is preparing to restore direct air connectivity with the Netherlands as authorities finalize arrangements for the launch of nonstop flights between Damascus International Airport (DAM) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS).
The planned service marks another step in the country’s efforts to reconnect with international aviation networks after years of restrictions and suspended operations.
Syrian Airlines (RB) is expected to resume direct operations on the route during the first week of July, according to Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport.
Officials say the final technical, legal, and regulatory procedures are now nearing completion in coordination with Dutch authorities, paving the way for the long-awaited relaunch.

Damascus Amsterdam Flights Resume Soon
Omar Hosari, head of Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, announced that discussions with authorities in the Netherlands have entered their final phase, SANA Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
The upcoming launch will restore a direct link that has remained suspended for several years due to operational and regulatory constraints.
According to Hosari, aviation officials are working throughout the current week to complete the remaining requirements before flights begin next month. The route is expected to serve both business and leisure travelers while improving connectivity for Syrians living abroad.
The Damascus–Amsterdam service represents one of the most significant international route restorations for Syria in recent years. Authorities view the development as evidence of gradual progress in rebuilding the country’s international aviation relationships.

European Network Expansion Plans
The planned Amsterdam route forms part of a broader strategy to expand Syria’s international air services. Hosari described Amsterdam as the first destination in a wider expansion program that could include additional European cities in the future.
Officials have emphasized that the achievement follows extensive technical assessments, legal coordination, and diplomatic engagement with foreign aviation authorities.
These efforts have focused on meeting operational requirements necessary for restoring scheduled international flights.
The reopening of direct services is also expected to strengthen passenger connectivity between Syria and Europe. Industry observers note that renewed international links could improve travel options for families, business travelers, and members of the Syrian diaspora.

Germany Flight Talks Progress
Alongside developments in the Netherlands, Syrian aviation authorities are continuing discussions with Germany regarding the possible restoration of direct flights. Hosari recently stated that negotiations with German regulators have shown positive progress.
A final decision on lifting flight restrictions between Syria and Germany is expected during the first half of July. If approved, airlines could move forward with preparations for restarting direct services after years of suspension.
Syria is also holding talks with several other European countries as part of its aviation recovery strategy. Authorities indicate that negotiations with some nations have already reached advanced stages, with additional announcements potentially expected in the coming months.
The launch of direct Damascus–Amsterdam flights would represent an important milestone for Syria’s aviation sector.
As regulatory approvals move toward completion, the route is set to become the first step in a broader effort to restore the country’s presence within regional and international air transport networks.
