KANNUR- An Air India Express (IX) flight operating from Kannur International Airport (CNN) to Jeddah (JED) returned to its departure airport on Tuesday after pilots received an engine-related warning during the journey.
The aircraft landed safely after the crew followed standard safety procedures and elected to discontinue the flight as a precaution.
The flight departed Kannur at approximately 7:40 a.m. with more than 180 passengers on board. About two hours after takeoff, the cockpit crew observed an engine warning indication and initiated a return to Kannur, prioritizing passenger safety and operational security.

According to airport sources, the warning light appeared while the aircraft was en route to Saudi Arabia.
After assessing the situation, the pilots decided to turn the aircraft back toward Kannur rather than continue the scheduled international service to Jeddah.
The aircraft remained airborne for a period before landing. During that time, the crew reportedly conducted fuel management procedures, including holding patterns near the airport, to reduce landing weight and ensure a safe arrival.
The aircraft subsequently landed without incident. Airport officials confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe and no injuries were reported during the event.
Aircraft Inspection Findings Reveal Fuel Issue
Following the landing, maintenance personnel conducted a technical inspection of the aircraft to determine the cause of the warning. Preliminary checks indicated an issue involving the aircraft’s fuel filter system.
While the warning initially appeared to be related to the engine, technicians later identified the fuel filter irregularity during the post-flight examination.
The airline has not reported any further operational concerns linked to the aircraft.
Engine warning indications can originate from a variety of systems and are designed to alert flight crews to potential abnormalities.
Commercial airline crews are trained to respond immediately to such notifications and follow established safety protocols.

To minimize disruption, the carrier arranged an alternative aircraft to transport affected passengers to Jeddah.
Guests were also provided refreshments and hotel accommodation while waiting for revised travel arrangements.
