HANOI- Vietnam Airlines (VN) has officially launched nonstop flights between Hanoi and Amsterdam, becoming the first Vietnamese carrier to establish a direct air link between Vietnam and the Netherlands.
The inaugural service marks a major step in the airline’s European expansion strategy and strengthens connectivity between Southeast Asia and one of Europe’s leading economic centers.
The first flight, VN83, departed Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) on June 16 and carried nearly 300 passengers aboard an Airbus A350.
After more than 12 hours in the air, the aircraft arrived at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), officially inaugurating the new route and opening a direct connection between the two capital cities, Vietnam News reported.

Vietnam Airlines Hanoi to Amsterdam Flights
Vietnam Airlines will operate three round-trip flights each week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays using its Airbus A350 fleet.
The airline said the service is designed to provide travelers with a more convenient alternative to connecting itineraries while improving access between Vietnam and Europe.
The launch expands the carrier’s long-haul network and gives passengers direct access to one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol serves as a major gateway for business and leisure travelers, offering extensive onward connections throughout Europe and other international markets.
Nguyen Quang Trung, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, said the new service reflects the airline’s commitment to strengthening Vietnam’s global connectivity.
He noted that the route will benefit both Vietnamese travelers heading to Europe and international visitors traveling to Vietnam.

Europe Network Expansion Strengthens Connectivity
The Amsterdam service further strengthens Vietnam Airlines’ footprint across Europe. With the addition of the Dutch capital, the carrier now operates 12 nonstop routes connecting Vietnam with eight major European destinations.
Its European network currently includes Paris, London, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, Copenhagen, Moscow, and Amsterdam.
The expansion supports the airline’s broader objective of increasing direct international connectivity while responding to growing passenger demand.
The airline has steadily invested in long-haul operations and premium wide-body aircraft to support its international growth plans. The Airbus A350 remains one of the key aircraft supporting Vietnam Airlines’ intercontinental network.

VN’s Growing International Demand Accelerates
Beyond passenger convenience, the new route is expected to support stronger trade, tourism, and investment ties between Vietnam and the Netherlands.
The launch comes as Vietnam experiences continued growth in international travel demand. Direct connectivity can help reduce travel times, improve business accessibility, and encourage greater tourism flows in both directions.
Vietnam Airlines is also increasing capacity on another important European route. Beginning July 1, 2026, the airline will raise Hanoi–Moscow frequencies from three to four round-trip flights per week to accommodate growing demand between Vietnam and Russia.
The airline expects the new European services to support future growth and reinforce its position as Vietnam’s national flag carrier in international markets.
