HO CHIH MINH- Vietnam Airlines (VN) has launched a new nonstop service connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Copenhagen, marking the first direct air link between Vietnam and Northern Europe.
The first service departed Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) late on December 15 and arrived at Copenhagen Airport (CPH), Denmark, after a flight time exceeding 12 hours. Operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the route aims to meet rising demand for travel driven by tourism, trade, business links, and family ties between Southeast Asia and Scandinavia.

New Ho Chi Minh City Route
The new Ho Chi Minh City–Copenhagen service operates three times weekly, strengthening Vietnam Airlines’ European footprint.
Flights depart Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, while return services leave Copenhagen on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings.
The airline carried more than 200 passengers on the inaugural outbound flight and over 300 passengers on the first return sector. This early load factor reflects strong initial interest from both leisure and business travelers seeking direct access between the two regions.
By eliminating intermediate stopovers, the nonstop connection significantly reduces overall travel time.
This improvement enhances passenger convenience and positions the airline more competitively against one-stop routings offered by other carriers.

Strategic Northern Europe Expansion
Copenhagen represents a key entry point into Northern Europe due to its role as a major Scandinavian transport hub. From CPH, travelers can connect efficiently to destinations across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland using integrated air, rail, and road networks.
Vietnam Airlines has identified Northern Europe as a high-potential market, particularly during winter months when outbound travel from the region increases toward warmer destinations.
Vietnam continues to attract growing numbers of Scandinavian visitors due to its climate, cultural offerings, and expanding tourism infrastructure.
The new route also serves the Vietnamese community in Northern Europe, estimated at around 70,000 people.
Direct connectivity is expected to strengthen cultural exchange, support bilateral trade, and encourage inbound investment between Vietnam and the Nordic region.

European Network Growth
With the addition of Copenhagen, Vietnam Airlines further diversifies its European network, which already includes major cities such as Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, London, Milan, and Moscow.
The carrier now ranks among a limited group of Southeast Asian airlines offering direct services to Northern Europe.
The route launch aligns with the airline’s long-term strategy to expand intercontinental connectivity while reinforcing its role as Vietnam’s national carrier.
It also underscores a broader effort to showcase Vietnam’s economy, culture, and tourism appeal on the global stage.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner deployed on the route supports long-haul efficiency through lower fuel burn, improved cabin comfort, and extended range.
These aircraft capabilities allow the airline to open thinner long-haul markets with sustainable operating economics.

Bottom Line
The debut of nonstop flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Copenhagen marks a significant milestone for Vietnam Airlines and for air connectivity between Southeast Asia and Northern Europe.
By combining strategic network expansion, modern aircraft, and targeted market demand, the airline strengthens its competitive position in Europe while opening new opportunities for passengers, businesses, and tourism flows.
