WASHINGTON— An American Airlines (AA) regional flight arriving at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) was met by emergency responders after a service dog reportedly caused a sanitation issue onboard that left several passengers feeling unwell.
The incident occurred on a Bombardier CRJ700 operated by PSA Airlines on behalf of American Airlines during a flight from Nashville International Airport (BNA) to Washington.
Despite the disruption inside the cabin, the aircraft completed its journey as scheduled and landed safely without requiring a diversion.

American Airlines Inflight Dog Incident
According to reports, the service dog experienced a medical issue during the flight and relieved itself inside the passenger cabin. The situation quickly became challenging because of the confined environment of the regional jet.
Several passengers reportedly became sick due to the odor and conditions inside the aircraft. Crew members monitored the situation while continuing the flight to its destination.
Pilots informed air traffic control and airline operations personnel about the onboard sanitation issue before landing. They requested hazmat assistance to be available upon arrival at Washington National Airport.
The aircraft touched down at approximately 2:37 p.m., slightly ahead of schedule. Emergency vehicles and specialized response teams were positioned at the gate to assist once passengers began deplaning.

Emergency Response by AA
Following arrival, medical personnel and airport responders boarded or met the aircraft to assess the situation. Passengers were evaluated as they exited the aircraft, while emergency crews inspected the cabin environment.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no passenger required hospitalization or additional medical treatment.
The response remained precautionary and focused on ensuring passenger safety and maintaining health standards.
Airlines routinely coordinate with airport emergency services when biological or hazardous material incidents occur onboard.
Such procedures help protect passengers, crew members, and ground personnel from potential health risks.

Service Animal Rules
The incident has also renewed discussion about service animal policies across the airline industry. Genuine service animals play an essential role for travelers with disabilities and are specially trained to perform specific tasks.
In recent years, airlines have tightened regulations regarding animals onboard aircraft.
Changes to federal rules in the United States reduced the acceptance of emotional support animals and placed greater emphasis on trained service animals.
According to View from the Wing, American Airlines has not reported any long-term impact from the incident, and the flight concluded without further operational disruptions.
Passengers were able to leave the aircraft safely after responders completed their assessments.
