MANCHESTER— A passenger protest outside Manchester Airport (MAN) brought traffic around Terminal 2 to a standstill on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) after an angry traveler climbed onto a bridge following a boarding dispute linked to his condition before departure.
The incident unfolded after the passenger, identified only as Jack from the Wakefield area, allegedly became furious when an airline refused to allow him to board a scheduled flight to Jamaica.
Authorities later arrested the man on suspicion of public nuisance and public order offenses after the protest disrupted airport access for nearly two hours.

Manchester Airport Protest
According to footage shared on social media, the passenger scaled safety barriers on a bridge overlooking the main access road leading into Terminal 2 shortly after leaving the airport terminal.
Emergency services quickly responded after spotting the man near the bridge edge, prompting police to shut down roads serving the terminal.
The closure caused severe traffic congestion around the airport during a busy afternoon departure period.
Several passengers reportedly abandoned vehicles and walked toward the terminal in an attempt to avoid missing flights as traffic queues stretched across surrounding roads.
The protest reportedly began at around 2 p.m. local time and continued for nearly two hours while negotiators attempted to persuade the man to step away from the bridge.

Flight Boarding Dispute
The passenger claimed he had been denied boarding after urinating on himself inside the airport terminal, which allegedly led airline staff to determine that he was unfit to travel.
The refusal reportedly triggered the confrontation outside the terminal.
During the standoff, airport representatives and negotiators attempted to resolve the situation by offering the passenger a full cash refund for his holiday package, reportedly valued at nearly £3,000.
Despite accepting that he would likely face arrest, the man initially refused to end the protest.
Videos circulating online showed the passenger speaking with negotiators while recording the unfolding incident.
At one stage, he reportedly stated he intended to continue the protest until late evening “out of principle,” even after officials warned him he would only receive the refund if he ended the demonstration.
Authorities eventually convinced the man to come down from the bridge before taking him into custody.

Police Arrest Protesting Passenger
Greater Manchester Police later confirmed the arrest in an official statement issued after the incident concluded.
Officers said the man, believed to be in his 40s, had been detained on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and committing a public order offense.
Manchester Airport also acknowledged the disruption, warning passengers that traffic conditions around Terminal 2 remained unusually busy during the evening rush.
Airport officials thanked travelers for their patience while emergency teams worked to safely resolve the situation.
The incident briefly disrupted airport operations landside but did not appear to significantly affect flight schedules.
However, videos of the dramatic protest quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread attention to the unusual dispute outside one of the United Kingdom’s busiest airports.
