LONDON- Ryanair (FR), Jet2 (LS), and easyJet (U2) have clear rules on food and drink passengers can carry onboard from UK airports such as London Luton Airport (LTN). These restrictions apply during busy travel periods, including the UK half-term holidays.
As many Birmingham residents prepare to travel, passengers must understand limits on hot drinks, personal alcohol, liquid foods, and certain imported goods.
According to BirminghamLive, failing to follow these rules may result in confiscation or refusal to consume items during the flight.

Onboard Food and Drink Rules
Low-cost airlines sell food and beverages during flights, but these products can be expensive. Many passengers prefer to bring their own snacks. However, each airline enforces specific cabin safety and comfort policies.
Ryanair Food and Alcohol Ban
Ryanair (FR) allows passengers to bring food and non-alcoholic cold drinks onboard under its “feel free” policy.
However, the airline prohibits:
- Boarding with hot drinks.
- Consuming personal alcohol during the flight.
Ryanair states: “In the interest of safety, we cannot allow passengers to board the plane with hot drinks or consume their own alcohol during the flight.”
Only alcohol purchased from cabin crew may be consumed onboard.
Jet2 Cabin Restrictions
Jet2 (LS) does not permit passengers to bring hot food or hot drinks onboard. Its website states: “You may not bring hot food or hot drinks onboard the aircraft.”
The airline also reserves the right to refuse:
- Items unsuitable due to weight or size.
- Fragile or perishable goods.
- Products that may affect safety, health, or comfort.
- Hot or strong smelling foods and drinks.
Jet2 states that it may refuse “items which in our reasonable opinion are unsuitable for carriage by reason of their weight, size or character or which are fragile or perishable or which may affect the safety, health or comfort of other passengers or crew.”
Only alcoholic drinks purchased onboard may be consumed. The airline offers a range of refreshments during the flight, as reported by the Record.
easyJet Food and Liquid Limits
easyJet (U2) allows passengers to bring their own food into the cabin. It also sells snacks and drinks during the flight.
The airline states: “You can bring food into the cabin, although we do sell a range of delicious food and drink on board.”
Key restrictions include:
- Liquid food such as soup or custard must follow the 100ml security limit.
- Hot drinks are allowed only if purchased after airport security and secured with a lid.
- Personal alcohol cannot be consumed onboard.
easyJet also warns: “Different countries have different regulations about importing food and drink, so make sure you check the rules for your destination.”

EU Rules on Meat and Dairy Imports
European Union regulations restrict passengers from bringing meat or dairy products into member states from certain countries.
These rules can apply to:
- Meat products.
- Dairy items.
- Sandwiches containing restricted ingredients.
Restrictions may still apply even if the items were purchased at an airport terminal. Travelers must check the destination country’s import requirements before departure.

Why These Airline Rules Matter
Airlines enforce these policies to reduce spill risks, prevent intoxication, maintain hygiene standards, and protect passenger comfort.
Liquid limits align with aviation security regulations. Import controls protect agriculture and public health.
Understanding these rules before travel helps passengers avoid delays and confiscated goods during peak holiday periods such as half-term.
