ISTANBUL— Turkish Airlines (TK) has confirmed a significant expansion of its China services for the upcoming Northern Summer 2026 season, maintaining and increasing weekly flights on its major China routes. The carrier’s latest filings show expanded frequencies from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Beijing Capital (PEK) and Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), and a planned frequency uplift to Shanghai Pudong (PVG).
Turkish Airlines’ strategic adjustment reflects sustained demand for travel between Türkiye and China, as the airline continues to strengthen its long‑haul network across Asia. The changes come amid broader growth in air services between the two countries following recent bilateral aviation agreements.

Turkish Airlines Increases China Flights
Turkish Airlines will maintain ten weekly flights between Istanbul and Beijing Capital from 29 March 2026, rather than reducing frequencies to seven weekly as originally scheduled, Aeroroutes reported.
The aircraft mix on this route will include the Boeing 777‑300ER and the Boeing 787‑9, supporting a reliable schedule designed to meet peak travel demand.
Flight TK088 departs IST at 0140, arriving in PEK as a daytime service, while TK196 operates later in the day with the Dreamliner. Return services TK089 and TK197 provide morning and early afternoon departures from Beijing, giving passengers multiple options for travel timing.
The airline’s decision to keep the service at ten weekly flights underscores continued strong demand on one of its core long‑haul China routes, bridging Europe, the Middle East, and Asian connections through its Istanbul hub.

Guangzhou and Shanghai Updates
The Istanbul – Guangzhou Baiyun service will also operate ten weekly flights from the end of March 2026, matching the enhanced Beijing frequency and departing from initial plans of just seven weekly rotations.
The 777‑300ER and 787‑9 aircraft again form the backbone of the schedule, providing capacity for both business and leisure travel. Outbound flight TK072 departs early morning from IST, while TK073 returns late at night from CAN.
On the Istanbul – Shanghai Pudong corridor, Turkish Airlines has increased the planned frequency from seven weekly to ten weekly services, with an additional 11th weekly rotation scheduled to resume from 11 May 2026.
This adjustment aims to offer more flexibility for passengers traveling to one of China’s largest economic centers. Return flights are operated via TK281 and TK027, while outbound services include TK026 and TK280.
The frequency increases across these three major Chinese cities highlight a coordinated effort by Turkish Airlines to match capacity with market demand throughout the peak Northern summer period.

Wider Market Context
Turkish Airlines’ expansion on China routes aligns with broader trends of increased air travel between Türkiye and China.
Air services ceilings were expanded under a 2024 bilateral agreement, enabling carriers from both countries to raise weekly passenger flight rights significantly. This has supported the addition of flights and capacity on key international routes.
The adjustments for Summer 2026 maintain robust connectivity to Beijing and Guangzhou and significantly bolster options for Shanghai travelers.
These enhanced frequencies also benefit travellers connecting beyond China, as Istanbul remains a major transit hub linking Asia with Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.

Bottom Line
Turkish Airlines is sustaining and building on its China network for the Northern Summer 2026 season by maintaining ten weekly flights to Beijing and Guangzhou, and increasing flights to Shanghai Pudong.
The airline’s emphasis on frequency and schedule flexibility reflects steady demand and ongoing efforts to support global connectivity between Türkiye and China.
