DENVER- Chicago-based United Airlines (UA) is expanding its route network from Denver International Airport (DEN), unveiling eight new flights that will enhance connectivity for travelers in the region.
Notably, this expansion includes United’s first-ever nonstop service from Denver to Rome (FCO), solidifying Denver’s position as a key hub in United’s network.
United Airlines Denver Routes
With these additions, United will serve over 160 domestic destinations and 20 international destinations from Denver. This expansion reflects United’s commitment to offering more options to passengers while maintaining its dominance as the carrier serving the most destinations from Denver.
The airline plans to launch seven domestic routes and one international route. These flights will begin rolling out in 2025, with tickets available for purchase starting today.

United’s expansion aligns with Denver’s growing status as a global travel hub.
United is the only carrier that serves destinations such as North Bend, Redding, Regina, and Wilmington. The airline will compete with Allegiant Air (G4) on the Peoria route and face competition from Southwest Airlines (WN) and Frontier Airlines (F9) on flights to Buffalo and Pensacola.
United Denver to Rome Flight
In an expansion of its international network, United will introduce its first nonstop flight from Denver to Rome, operating from May 1 to September 24, 2025.
The route will connect Denver International Airport (DEN) to Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The daily flights will offer over 250 seats, including 48 lie-flat Polaris business class seats.
The Denver-to-Rome route spans 5,563 miles (8,952 KM), with a flight time of approximately 10.5 hours, providing a direct link between the Rocky Mountains and the Italian capital for the summer season.
Denver is Gearing up for Busy Travel
Denver International Airport (DEN) is gearing up for a busy holiday season, with over 811,000 passengers expected to pass through TSA checkpoints between Thursday, Dec. 19, and Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024.
This represents a 7.95% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The busiest travel days are anticipated to be Dec. 20 and Dec. 27, with Dec. 27 alone expected to see 83,307 passengers screened.
For perspective, the busiest travel days at DEN so far in 2024 include July 7, with a record 93,591 passengers, followed by July 21 with 89,421 passengers, and Aug. 1 with 87,472 passengers screened.
To enhance the holiday atmosphere, DEN is offering live piano performances in the Great Hall’s arrivals area through Dec. 22 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Holiday carolers will roam the concourses through Dec. 23, performing at varying times.
Travelers can also visit “Santa’s Layover Lounge,” a holiday-themed pop-up bar on Concourse B. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. until Jan. 6, 2025, the lounge features handcrafted holiday cocktails, a hot chocolate bar, festive food options, and surprise appearances by Santa Claus.
Passengers are advised to arrive at least two hours before boarding to allow ample time for checking bags, navigating security, and reaching their gates. Security lines may be longer during peak times, which include 3 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

TSA Checkpoints and PreCheck Access
The West Security Checkpoint on Level 6, Northwest corner of the terminal, is the primary checkpoint for TSA PreCheck passengers. It operates from 4 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily.
- TSA PreCheck: Enter at West Security 3 near Door 600.
- CLEAR PreCheck Customers: A CLEAR lane is available at West Security 3 for travelers with both CLEAR and TSA PreCheck. Customers with only CLEAR must use the South Security checkpoint.
- Accessibility, Premium, Employees, and Military Lane: Located at West Security 2 near Door 606.
- Standard Screening: Entry is at West Security 1.
- DEN RESERVE Program: Passengers can book reservations up to 14 days in advance to reduce wait times. Reservations are honored at West Security 2 near Door 606 from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
The checkpoint also features enhanced technology allowing passengers to leave liquids and laptops in their bags.
The South Security Checkpoint on Level 5 at the South Terminal serves as the primary checkpoint for standard screening. It operates from 3 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily.
- Standard Screening: Main checkpoint for travelers without PreCheck.
- TSA PreCheck: Four dedicated lanes operate from 4 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. near Baggage Claim 7. Pre-check travelers after 10 p.m. can use this checkpoint for expedited screening.
- CLEAR Standard Customers: A dedicated CLEAR lane is available for standard screening. Customers with both CLEAR and TSA PreCheck must use the designated West Security lane between 4 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
