ISTANBUL- Boeing and Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines (PC) announced an agreement for up to 200 Boeing 737 MAX 10 (737-10) aircraft, marking a significant expansion and modernization of the Turkish low-cost carrier’s fleet.
The order includes 100 firm purchases of the 737-10 model, with options for an additional 100 aircraft.
Turkish Airlines Orders Boeing 737 MAX
The Boeing 737-10, the largest in the MAX series, accommodates up to 230 passengers and offers a range of 5,740 kilometers (3,100 nautical miles). Its advanced design reduces fuel consumption and emissions by 20% compared to older models.
The aircraft’s efficiency and flexibility will enable Pegasus Airlines to operate more cost-effective routes while increasing passenger capacity.
Pegasus Airlines CEO Güliz Öztürk emphasized the airline’s longstanding relationship with Boeing, dating back to its industry debut in 1990. “Expanding our fleet with the 737-10 aligns with our growth targets in Türkiye and internationally,” Öztürk said.
She noted that the firm orders are part of a broader strategy to expand Pegasus Airlines’ network by introducing new routes.
Öztürk also highlighted the airline’s approach to managing the additional 100 aircraft options. “We will evaluate market conditions and fleet requirements to decide on converting the remaining options into firm orders in the coming years,” she stated.
The agreement reinforces Pegasus Airlines’ commitment to sustainable growth and operational efficiency.
Boeing CEO Remarks
Pegasus Airlines, which began operations nearly 35 years ago with the Boeing 737 Classic, is expanding its fleet with the addition of the Boeing 737-10 to support its growing travel demand.
The 737-10 will complement Pegasus’ existing Next-Generation 737 fleet, offering operational commonality and enhanced flexibility.
“We are proud to welcome Pegasus Airlines as the newest 737 MAX customer,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. She emphasized the 737-10’s efficiency, versatility, and reliability in meeting the demands of modern aviation.
The 737-10 will support Pegasus Airlines’ expansion into new markets across Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. Boeing projects nearly 7,900 single-aisle aircraft deliveries to European and Central Asian operators over the next 20 years, underscoring the region’s potential for growth.
Pegasus CEO Güliz Öztürk noted that the order aligns with Boeing’s National Aerospace Initiative with Türkiye, launched in 2017. “This partnership will create new opportunities for Turkish manufacturers and contribute to the wider aviation industry,” Öztürk said.
The airline’s purchase of 100 737-10 jets brings total orders for the 737 MAX series to over 1,200.
