SAN FRANCISCO- Tata Group-owned Air India (AI) flight from Delhi International Airport (DEL) to San Francisco Int’l Airport (SFO) diverted to Los Angeles (LAX) on December 18, 2024.
Air India flight AI173 operates daily flights between Delhi Airport and San Francisco Airport.
Air India San Francisco Flight
According to Flight Radar 24 data, AI173 departed from Delhi (DEL) with a delay of 2 hours and 45 minutes at 06:45 am IST instead of its scheduled departure time of 04:00 am IST.
However, as the plane neared San Francisco (SFO), the pilots didn’t descend the aircraft. Rather, the plane continued flying at the cruising altitude of 39,000ft. This indicates that the pilots had already decided to divert the flight.
The plane flew for another 1 hour and 11 minutes from San Francisco and landed in Los Angeles (LAX) on runway 26 Left at 16:51 local time.
The flight was operated by a 15.6-year-old Boeing 777-200LR registered as VT-AEI, which was delivered to Air India (AI) in May 2009.
The exact reason for this diversion is unknown. However, it is anticipated that the bad weather in San Francisco could have forced the flight to divert to Los Angeles.
After being on the ground for about 3 hours and 30 minutes in Los Angeles, the aircraft departed from LAX from runway 24 Left at 20:24 local time.
The aircraft flew for about 1 hour and 11 minutes from Los Angeles and landed in San Francisco (SFO) on runway 28 Right at 22:06 local time on the same day.
We are awaiting more information regarding this diversion. We will update the post once we have a new update. Stay tuned.
