HANOI- On Monday (Feb 27, 2024), the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd (COMAC) showcased its Chinese airplanes, the C919 and ARJ21, at the Vietnam airshow.
The demonstration flight tour is set to cover five Southeast Asian countries, as reported by China Media Group (CMG).
COMAC C919 and ARJ21 in Vietnam
The Vietnam airshow, spanning four days from Monday to Thursday, marks the debut of the two jetliners in the region. Following their appearances at the Singapore Airshow 2024, where they made their first airshow appearances outside China, the C919 and ARJ21 flew from Singapore to Vietnam’s Van Don International Airport (VDO) in the northern Quang Ninh Province on Monday.
Over the next two weeks, the C919 and ARJ21-700 will conduct demonstration flights in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
The objective is to assess their adaptability to airports and routes in Southeast Asian countries, laying the groundwork for future regional market development, as per CMG.
According to Hoang Van Dung, the deputy director of Van Don International Airport, the COMAC airshow is anticipated to facilitate the commencement of commercial flights from various Chinese provinces and cities to Van Don. The initial route is expected to be established from Shantou City in China’s Guangdong Province.
This showcase is poised to enhance tourism collaboration between Quang Ninh Province and significant markets in China. Simultaneously, it aims to incentivize airlines to initiate flights and travel agencies to introduce tourism packages specifically for Van Don International Airport, as mentioned by Hoang Van Dung.
