BOSTON- In an unexpected turn of events, the alert and sharp Air Traffic Controller (ATC) at Boston Logan Airport (BOS) averted a close encounter between American Airlines (AA) and Spirit Airlines (NK).
The event occurred on August 14, 2023, when Spirit Airbus A320neo came close to landing at the Boston, and at the same time, American Airlines Boeing 737 was trying to Takeoff.
American Spirit Boston Mishap
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported the incident and wrote,
An air traffic controller at Boston Logan International Airport directed American Airlines Flight 457Q to abort its takeoff following the observation that Spirit Airlines Flight 1444 was approaching the runway hold line. As a precautionary measure, the controller revoked the takeoff clearance for the American Airlines Boeing 737.
FAA Reports
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is conducting an inquiry into the occurrence, which took place around 12:50 p.m. local time on Monday, August 14th.
The Spirit Airlines flight NK1444 was arriving from Atlanta (ATL) to Boston (BOS). Meanwhile, American Airlines flight AA457Q was departing from Boston (BOS) to Chicago (ORD).
Following this, the American Airlines flight was delayed by more than two hours and landed three hours late at ORD.
The Spirit Airlines aircraft involved in the Incident is Airbus A320neo, registered as N923NK. While the American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registered as N946AN, was involved in the incident.

On Friday, July 21, around 8 p.m. local time, the controller instructed Delta Flight 1204 to perform a routine go-around. This prompt decision was made to ensure the safety of both Delta Flight 1557, which was still on the runway, and Flight 1204, which was on its landing approach.
According to FAA News, ‘The air traffic controller instructed Delta Flight 1204 to execute a routine go-around at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport due to Delta Flight 1557 remaining on the runway despite being cleared to cross before Flight 1204’s landing.’
